Happy Friday!   I hope everyone has had a great start to the school year. For the most part, the first few days have gone pretty good. Hopefully, we are done with the heat wave so we can get everything back to normal.  The ISASP scores are all in from last year now, but the state has put an embargo on the data so we can't release anything yet. I'll get the student score sheets printed off so we can give those to the student along with the goal sheets from last year. I believe that is part of the October MTSS activities. Next Friday, September 1, the students will have their ALICE training. The freshmen will be during 2nd period, sophomores 3rd, juniors 4th, and seniors 6th. All the trainings will take place in the Little Theater. If your class consists of only that grade level, please come to the Little Theater also.  I did move Mr. Irwin's class to first lunch. I have put an updated master schedule for 1st semester on the website.    As of 7:30 am o...

Happy Friday! I hope everyone had a great week. We have made it to graduation weekend. With all the grad parties/celebrations last weekend, you would have thought we already had this done. Just a reminder to those staff members who are scheduled to work graduation please be there by 1:30. We will be outside at the stadium again this year. May 26 will be the check out day for all remaining students. They will go to advisory the last 15 minutes of 8th period to check in computers. All students will turn them in regardless if they are taking semester tests. If a student needs a computer for the test, have him/her use one that was checked in. Please make sure you mark everything on the google doc: computer check in/out .  Semester tests will be on May 30 - June 1. We will use the following schedule: Time                       May 30             May 31       ...

Happy Friday! I hope everyone had a great week. As we wrap up Teacher Appreciation Week, Kyle and I would like to show our appreciation for all that you do for our students. We will have lunch set up for you in the lounge, please stop in during your lunch time and help yourself.  This morning we are starting the interview process for the associate principal position. I'll be unavailable from 8:15 to 11:00. Last week we did hire a new FACS teacher, Alayna Gorter. This will be her first teaching position as she just graduated from the college located north of Sioux Falls and south of Watertown. She graduated from Central Lyon High School.  On Monday, the board approved the honor's program proposal. So next school year we will need to start working on what the honor sections will look like. When we have our freshmen orientation, I'll discuss this program and make the parents and students aware of it for the first time.  During cabinet this week, we were discussing the uses o...

Happy Friday! We made it to May. I hope everyone had a great week.  Next week is Teacher Appreciation Week and on Friday, Kyle and I will be providing lunch. Thank you for all that you do for our students. However, today someone on staff is celebrating the big 40! Happy Birthday Mr. Prichard. Mr. Kopperud had the opportunity to present our top 10 seniors at the Rotary Club on Tuesday. That is always a fun time to see how the students interact with community members and it is nice that the Rotary invites the top 10 to come to this lunch meeting. Each year, they have a speaker that challenges the students to use their leadership and gifts to help others. It is a good message for the students to hear.  The seniors are down to 6 days left of classes. If you have a senior failing a class, it is important that you communicate with the family and myself. I have been running credit checks and ther...

Happy Friday! I hope everyone had a good week. Seniors will be down to 10 days. I have about 18 of them I am watching to make sure they pass what they need to graduate. For a couple of them, I think I am more stressed about it then they are.  It is amazing how busy this time of year gets. Spring sport seasons are really going, we are getting ready for graduation, the counselors are working with kids on their schedules for next year, etc. Please take some time to enjoy the moment and relax when you can.  At the LCS Foundation Banquet on Wednesday, Paul Fischer was honored for his 25 years of employment at LCHS. Also celebrating their 25th year were Joanne Koth, Dawn MacGregor, Eric Peterson, Leigha Scheitler, and Leroy Wichers. Employees of the Month were also recognized again, Cliff Collins was the February honoree. Also, the top 5% of the class of 2023 were recognized, they are: Meredith A...

Happy Friday! I hope everyone had a great week. Today is our last midterm date of the school year. Midterms will be printed off and sent home with the students. These will be passed out at the end of 8th period.  On Monday, I will be meeting with seniors during advisory to go over graduation items. We will meet in the little theater. Seniors are down to 15 days of class not including today. If you have a senior failing a class, please make sure you are contacting parents and asking the student to come in before or after school to make up work or retake tests. My last check had 32 seniors failing one or more classes. Now not all of those seniors need to pass the class to graduate, but many do.  In the coming weeks, Mrs. Leavitt will be sending out more information regarding the extra pd hours for next year that you will be paid for to make up for the money you would lose from our new pd format....

Happy Friday! I hope everyone has had a great week with the warm weather. Looks like it could be little cooler this weekend. It is hard to believe we are already half way through April. Then end is in sight. Speaking of the end in sight, we have several seniors that are really digging a hole in terms of their grades. I will be talking to the 17 seniors that are failing a class needed for graduation today.  We do have our master schedule done for next year. Judd and Melissa are going through the student's schedules to make sure the students have all the required courses in there. We will be handing out student schedules soon. During advisory on Monday, the students will need to take the Conditions for Learning survey. We do have some students that the parents have turned in the form to excuse them from the survey. I will send out those names later today. Please just have those students sit quietly or re...
