Happy Friday!  I hope everyone has had a great start to the school year. For the most part, the first few days have gone pretty good. Hopefully, we are done with the heat wave so we can get everything back to normal.

The ISASP scores are all in from last year now, but the state has put an embargo on the data so we can't release anything yet. I'll get the student score sheets printed off so we can give those to the student along with the goal sheets from last year. I believe that is part of the October MTSS activities.

Next Friday, September 1, the students will have their ALICE training. The freshmen will be during 2nd period, sophomores 3rd, juniors 4th, and seniors 6th. All the trainings will take place in the Little Theater. If your class consists of only that grade level, please come to the Little Theater also.

I did move Mr. Irwin's class to first lunch. I have put an updated master schedule for 1st semester on the website.

As of 7:30 am on Aug 24, we have 713 students in the building. 198 freshmen, 189 sophomores, 175 juniors, and 151 seniors. The alternative school has 41 students enrolled.

For those teaching concurrent courses, please get me the copy of the WIT release. If you have a student refuse, please let me know so I can notify the parents. I would like to have this done by Sept. 1.

Fall athletic season is in full swing, golf has already had several competitions, volleyball has had one tournament under their belt, football will have their first game tonight, and cross country will have their first competition on Sept. 1. Marching band is also going full speed ahead. They will be here from 9 am to 9 pm on Saturday learning the final part to their show.

Jostens will be meeting with the Sophomores on
Have a great weekend! I am sure your voices need the weekend to recover.

Assistant Principal's Happenings

Hello--  THANK YOU for a GREAT START to a new year.  I saw so many great things being done by our staff:

- being friendly faces to new students
- patiently guiding students to classes
- playing "get-to-know-you" games and activities
- laying down ground rules with firmness and kindness
- showing genuine excitement to see students after summer break
- high-fives and first bumps in the hallways
- handling student anxiety with grace
- checking in with our new staff
- greeting students at your door and in the hallways

I could go on and on.  I can see how much you truly care for our kids.  You consistently prove why you are the best staff in the state.  Keep up the great work.

A few discipline-related items:
1) Mark and I have given a lot of verbal warnings to students about the dress code, specifically regarding hats and midriffs.  We will announce Friday that we will start giving referrals on Monday.  Please help us enforce this.  If you see a student out of compliance, calmly tell them what they need to change and give them a chance to comply.  Feel free to collect hats or ask them to change clothes, if necessary.   If they refuse, calmly send them to us.

2) Parking is always a fight.  Please remind students that they need to have a parking pass, need to park in a legitimate parking spot, and cannot park around the weight room.  We will start running plates and towing, if necessary.

3) Remind freshmen that they are not allowed off campus during lunch.  They may go outside but can only go as far north as the start of Carey gym.  In other words, they cannot go in front of Carey gym or in the parking lot.  We talked about this during orientation, but many students were not present.  Finally, remind them that this is not "8th grade recess".  Civilized and non-juvenile behavior is the expectation.

4) Mark and I are both trying to be in the hallways and classrooms as much as we can.  Don't be alarmed if you see us in your doorway or taking a seat with your students.  We want to be involved and see the great things you are doing.  We also want students to get used to us being around.

5)  Please review these Football Game Expectations with your 6th hour today. Remind them the expectations apply to away games.

Keep being awesome!
