Friday Focus Happy Friday! I hope everyone has had a great week.  I will be out of the building again today. I will be in Des Moines so Tanner can swim in the Iowa Senior Short Course Championships. This will be a fun 3 days of swimming.  Please note the end of the quarter is March 10 and it will be here before you know it. Grades will be due on March 12 and we will send out report cards at that time. The 2nd trimester ended on Wednesday of this week. I hope to store grades sometime in the next 3 days when I am in Des Moines.  I have started to schedule department meetings for the next couple of weeks to go over course numbers for next year. Please also remember that requistions are due on March 16. If you are ordering any type of "office supplies", those will need to be sent to Amy so we can do one large order.  We are doing driver's education the same way as we did it last year. They will be starting class on Saturday, March...

Friday Focus Happy Friday! I hope everyone has had a great week. The way the students were behaving, I would have thought we were getting 2 feet of snow.  Judd and Melissa are getting closer to having 95% of our students registered. I will be starting to send meeting invites out to departments to discuss registration numbers for 26-27. Also, please remember to start on your 26-27 requisitions. Please refer back to Mrs. Holzman's email regarding the format of the requisitions. If it does not meet what she needs, I'll need to reject it so you can redo it.  I am happy to announce we have filled our new PE, Head Strength position. Bryant Dutcher will be joining us to take on this position. He is a graduate of Buena Vista and is currently teaching at Sioux City East. Next school year, we are starting a new class called Bulldog Strength and Speed. We are strongly encouraging all of our athletes to take this course to get their strength training don...

Friday Focus Happy Friday the 13th! I will be out of the building today, as I will be in Iowa City for the State Swim Meet. Tanner qualified in 2 individual events and he will swim prelims tonight. Tanner and Seth will be swimming their relays on Saturday. Saturday's races will be broadcast on KTIV-CW. As post-season wrap-ups conclude for our winter activities, we are officially shifting gears toward spring. For me, once spring sports hit, the school year seems to accelerate even faster. On the administrative side, student registration is nearly complete. Once we have the majority of students registered, I will begin scheduling "number meetings" to finalize our sections and staffing needs. AI & Legal Considerations: Protecting Student Privacy On Tuesday, Adam and I attended the SAI Legal Lab , where we took a deep dive into the legal considerations of AI. Our primary takeaway involves FERPA compliance and the platform you choose to use: Open AI Pl...

Friday Focus Happy Friday, I hope everyone has had a great week.  Last week I wrote about the DCAP and I wanted to share that document with you this week. Please take the time look it over. If you are doing something that fits with in the different sections, please let me know so I can add it, bonus points if you send me something to hyperlink as evidence. Le Mars DCAP 2025-2026 This week I started work on the Comprehensive Local Needs Assessment or CLNA. This needs to be completed every 2 years for our Perkins grant. This is antoher requirement for our CTE teachers. This plan looks at different areas and we go through and rate ourselves, list our strengths and then items we need to work on. We also have to outline our Perkins budget for the next 2 fiscal years.  Judd and Melissa have been busy with registration talks and starting the online registration process. I am asking you to show a 5 minute video Monday in advisory on the new Wells SchoolWorks...

Friday Focus Happy Friday, I hope everyone has had a good week. As I am writing this, we have been placed in a cold weather warning, so who knows where you will actually be when you read this. I have been busy this week working on our District Career Academic Plan or DCAP for short. The District Career and Academic Plan (DCAP) is a state-mandated roadmap that outlines how our district supports every student in grades 5–12 with their Individual Career and Academic Plan (ICAP).  What is the DCAP? The DCAP is a high-level framework designed to ensure we are providing the necessary resources, experiences, and guidance for students to transition successfully into postsecondary education or the workforce. It is not just a document for administrators; it is a "living context" for our school's mission to prepare future-ready graduates. Key components of our DCAP include: The DCAP Team: A mandated group including administrators, school counselors, and teachers (general ...
