Happy Friday! Today is my traditional longest work day of the year. As we wrap up homecoming week, thank you to those that participated in the dress up days. I don't know if the staff or students did a better job with the roll out of bed and come to school. With the 7 am meeting that day, I think it may have been the staff.  Classes will dismiss today after 4th period. Student Council will be dismissed to the competition gym after 1st period to start decorating for coronation. Football players and cheerleaders will be going to the elementary schools like in past years. Coronation will start at 1 and the parade will follow. Hopefully close to 2:00 pm. It would be great to see the staff at coronation. I know some of you do have parade lineup duty. The LCS Foundation is taking nominations for Employee of the Month again. The last person was recognized in February 2019. Please take the time to nominate one of your peers. Nomination forms can be found here: http://www.lemarscsd.org...

Happy Friday! I hope everyone had a great week.  We are starting to see an influx of illnesses in the high school. There are several other bugs going around besides Covid. It is still expected that courses are up to date on Schoology so students can access work when they are absent. A secondary benefit is Jakki and Shelli can see what kids need to do when the student is in the Success Center. Also, please take care of yourselves, I know several have come to school when not feeling the best. I also know that subs are hard to find, but let that be my problem, not yours. If I can't get certified subs, I may have to give classes study hall and have an aide supervise or move them into the study hall in the commons. If possible, we can look at combining classes. I did this with Biology this week and combined 4th and 5th periods. I do appreciate your desire to be here, but I would like you to be healthy.  Homecoming is next week, I encourage you to dress up for the different days. It...

Happy Friday! I hope everyone had a great week. Thank you for your work during Wednesday's extra hour building professional development. As we move forward in our PLC journey, we are using more of a vertical aligned PLC framework. This framework was chosen because many of you are basically singleton teachers. In order for us to have meaningful conversations about what is happening in the classrooms, we need to find common skills between the courses. For some, this is easy to do, for others it is going to take a little more time. The process on how we do this is what is important. This is a process that can be used to discuss content also. On Wednesday, CIA is going to discuss data collection. Identifying how you will collect your data will assist in developing the common formative assessment. Then your next step will be to develop the common formative assessment. Tomorrow, marks the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. This was one of those days in our history where you remember w...

Happy Friday! Thank you for your work Wednesday morning in our first building professional development meeting. It was great to hear the different conversations regarding what kitchen utensil matches your personality. Some groups even started to identify other people's utensils and why they saw them that way. Thank you to CIA for planning our professional development. They put in extra hours to make sure our time is spent doing the activities that will help us move forward with PLC's.  Getting to know each other in our PLC's is vital for us to start to have frank conversations about data and teaching strategies. Each person needs to believe their PLC is safe place where you can talk with you peers to help you find effective teaching strategies and help remove in-effective strategies.  Thank you for your assistance in getting through our first screener of the year. In order for this to be effective, this needs to be a data point for our students and how they...

Happy Friday! I hope everyone has had a great start to the first couple days of school. We had a small hic-cup in lunch with 2nd lunch being huge, but I think we have worked that out.  Just a few reminders about how COVID will be treated this year. Students/Staff that experience symptoms of COVID will be out at least 10 days. People can return with a negative test or alternative diagnosis once they are 24 hour symptom/fever free. If no test is given, then the person is out 10 days and must be 24 hour symptom/fever free before he/she may return. If the person tests positive, then he/she is out 10 days. We will not be contact tracing or telling people they need to quarantine.  We do have our COVID clinic today at the high school. This is available for staff and students. Depending on how many get the shot, some students may have to leave class and will have to wait 15 minutes before returning.  Monday starts our normal advisory period. There are no planned act...

Happy Friday! This will be my last Friday Focus for the 20-21 school year. I know some of you are cheering right now.  First off, thank you for all you have done this year. I know words can't express how much I appreciate working with a great staff. You really do make my job easy as I can be there to support you. This has been the year if you were ever going to throw in the towel you would do it. Each and everyone you have made sacrifices and worked more extra hours than anyone on the outside will ever know or understand.  As we draw near the end of the year, just some reminders of things that will need to happen before you leave for the summer. 1. Make sure all grades are entered and you have finalized your gradebook. If you don't remember, I had shared a video made by an old wise man, Adam Moss. Make sure you tell him I said old.  2. Make sure you fill out the textbook inventory form. I shared this document with you so you can start working o...

Happy Friday! I hope everyone had an enjoyable week. Today is the last day for regular class for the seniors. They will need to sign out today if they are not taking semester tests. Seniors will take their semester tests on Monday and Tuesday. I am going to request that all test be completed by the end of 4th period on Tuesday, so you can get grades entered that afternoon/night and then Amy can finish figuring out the awards right away Wednesday morning. I will store grades Wednesday when I get here at 6:50.  The awards ceremony is Wednesday at 6:30 pm in the middle school auditorium. At this time, there is no attendance restrictions, but masks will be required. The early forecast for the 23rd looks good, 75 and partly cloudy. Hopefully, I don't jinx anything.  Please continue to be visible between classes in the hallway. We have seen an increase in school is about over behavior. Masks are still required to be worn in the buildings when you are not by your...
