Happy Friday! Thank you for your work Wednesday morning in our first building professional development meeting. It was great to hear the different conversations regarding what kitchen utensil matches your personality. Some groups even started to identify other people's utensils and why they saw them that way. Thank you to CIA for planning our professional development. They put in extra hours to make sure our time is spent doing the activities that will help us move forward with PLC's.

Getting to know each other in our PLC's is vital for us to start to have frank conversations about data and teaching strategies. Each person needs to believe their PLC is safe place where you can talk with you peers to help you find effective teaching strategies and help remove in-effective strategies.

Thank you for your assistance in getting through our first screener of the year. In order for this to be effective, this needs to be a data point for our students and how they are progressing towards the skills needed to be successful. Renaissance has more features that we can tape into. If you see a common skill deficiency, they do have activities that can be used to target those skills. If these skills can be incorporated into your classes with your content, it will give you areas your PLC can discuss and look at what teaching strategies were most effective.

CIA and MTSS have set our building goals for this school year. The district set a 5 year goal of having 80% of our student proficient or advance by 2026. We took the difference from last years scores and the 80% and divided it by 5 to come up with our numbers.

In the spring of 2022, 75.5% of students in grades 9-11 will be at or above proficiency on the Reading portion of the ISASP.

In the spring of 2022, 75.2% of students in grades 9-11 will be at or above proficiency on the Math portion of the ISASP.

In the spring of 2022, 73% of students in grade 10 will be at or above proficiency on the Science portion of the ISASP.

Just a reminder that I would still like to have you meet in departments or by common classes in the weeks we have our early morning PD meetings. The meetings during your prep should be spent working on curriculum, common assessments, etc. If you department wants to divide into smaller groups that is fine. I am not asking you to submit what was done during this time on the PLC meeting forms. It is expected that courses taught by multiple teachers are on or near the same pace and give the same assessments. This doesn't mean you need to teach the same way, you just need to follow a similar pace 1-2 days and the same assessments. Then you can have conversations around your data.

Looking ahead, we have no school on Monday and Wednesday is a building PD meeting. CIA will send out the agenda prior to that day.

Enjoy your three day weekend!

Assistant Principal's Happenings

Thank you everyone for working hard through the first full week and reinforcing policies so kids will follow them throughout the year.  This is really the time to make sure we do not let the little things slide, otherwise, students will see it as acceptable behavior.  We did have several major behaviors already this year.  Be on the lookout for these behaviors and let me know or the counselors know if you have a student that is displaying concerns so we can address them before they escalate.

Homecoming is coming up in just a few weeks.  Please look over the agenda email I sent out for Advisory next week Tuesday.  I will also be sending the duty sheet out that day as well.  You are expected to sign up for at least one duty during the week, (most are for Friday) as the rest of the district does work full days that day and we get dismissed early.

Have a great 3-day week!
