Happy Friday! I hope everyone had a great week. Thank you for your work during Wednesday's extra hour building professional development. As we move forward in our PLC journey, we are using more of a vertical aligned PLC framework. This framework was chosen because many of you are basically singleton teachers. In order for us to have meaningful conversations about what is happening in the classrooms, we need to find common skills between the courses. For some, this is easy to do, for others it is going to take a little more time. The process on how we do this is what is important. This is a process that can be used to discuss content also. On Wednesday, CIA is going to discuss data collection. Identifying how you will collect your data will assist in developing the common formative assessment. Then your next step will be to develop the common formative assessment.

Tomorrow, marks the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. This was one of those days in our history where you remember where you were and what you were doing. I was teaching in Vermillion at that time and just remember watching the news and not believing what I was seeing. Please take a moment with your classes to discuss what happened that day and the following 20 years. 

Homecoming is quickly approaching. I encourage you to dress up for the different days. It is fun for the students to see the staff get involved. Homecoming Friday will operate like it has in the past. All students will be dismissed at the end of 4th period. Coronation and the pep rally will begin at 1:00 pm with the parade following, roughly 2-2:15pm. You will be asked to sign up for a job for homecoming week, either supervise float building, help with the parade line up and parade, or help tear down floats. I would encourage you to come to the coronation/pep rally if you did not sign up for parade duty.

Next week, we have our 2 hour in-service time. CIA will be getting you the agenda.

Assistant Principal's Happenings

Homecoming is in just another week.  I will send out a Homecoming Duties Sign up today, I just need to find out if some grades are using the Fair Grounds or not for float building.  Please make sure you sign up for one duty.  I have been unable to locate the duty list of the past so if you see something missing please let me know.   

Thank you for your patience as we work out a few issues with special education classroom placements.  If you are having concerns with any special education student please reach out to his Advisory Teacher and see if there are accommodations that can be made to help them in your classes.

Also, we have been busy in the office, which is normal at the start of the year.  If there are issues or concerns that I have talked about with you but haven't gotten to please remind me by email.  If we talk in person, I often forget as soon as I walk away without that email reminder.  I create tasks from the emails to better handle requests.

If students forget their Chromebooks, they can check one out for the day from the Tech Room.  Please send them down there so they have access to a Chromebook and don't fall behind in your classes.  Please reach out to parents and me if it becomes a consistent issue.

Finally, please make sure you are updating attendance as students come to class.  I am still having 8-10 students a day that are marked truant but were in class or should have been marked tardy.  We also have about 5 students that we are trying to work with families to get them to school or possibly look at alternative options.  These students should be marked truant each day until we get them sorted out.  I will hand out tardy detentions this year as well.  At 5 and 6, there is a 30 minute detention and at 7 there is a 2 hour detention.  I will not do the first round until after Homecoming.  Several teachers have students that have already reached those marks, if you want to give out the detentions before that, that is fine, just please email me so I can mark that down that they served the time with you.

  Friday Focus  Happy Friday! I hope everyone had a great week.  On Monday, I attended a DCAP workshop. You may be asking what is a DCAP workshop? DCAP is our District Career Academic Plan. Just like the student ICAP, Individual Career Academic Plan, the district must have one also. In the DCAP, we spell out what we are doing to prepare our students for college career readiness and employability skills. The DCAP consists of 7 sections, the main sections deal with course planning, work-based learning, and 5 essential components of ICAP.  The course planning section deals with the students 4 year plan and how the students and parents are advised on progress towards graduation. This is why we have the grade level registration meetings, our 8th grade CTE day, 8th grade parent meeting, etc so we can meet this requirement.  I am sure by this point, you are asking yourself how does this apply to me?   Friday Focus Happy Friday! I hope everyone had a great week. We made it through graduation breakfast, practice, and award night. I was thinking that Wednesday is just as about as busy of a day as the Friday of homecoming for me.  This will be the last Friday Focus for the school year, so I'll try to remember to have everything you need to know to get through the last week of classes. Please remember contracts are due to Central Office on the 23rd. I do have a basket on my desk where you can turn it into me and I'll get it to Central Office.   We will be running the advisory schedule on Monday. On Tuesday, we will use the last day of school schedule. On the last day of classes students will be checking out. Please sign their check out sheets. If they have school property that needs to be returned, please document it on the sheet. During advisory that day, they will turn in their laptops.   Friday Focus Happy Friday!   I hope everyone has had a great week. Today is midterm of the 1st quarter. Please make sure all grades are up to date. Amy will run midterms and we will hand them out during 8th period.   I have had my first PASS plan turned in, congrats to Ms. Hommes to be the first one to get one done. Unfortuately is is for a senior that needs his credits. Next week is homecoming, let the fun begin. Monday night at 7:30 pm is the coronation. Come out to the competition gym to see who will be crowned this year's King and Queen.  On Monday, we will have class meetings so students can sign up for the different competitions. Freshmen will be in the Little Theater, Sophomores in the Library, Juniors in the Commons, and Seniors in the Competition Gym.
