Happy Friday! I hope everyone had a great week.
We are starting to see an influx of illnesses in the high school. There are several other bugs going around besides Covid. It is still expected that courses are up to date on Schoology so students can access work when they are absent. A secondary benefit is Jakki and Shelli can see what kids need to do when the student is in the Success Center. Also, please take care of yourselves, I know several have come to school when not feeling the best. I also know that subs are hard to find, but let that be my problem, not yours. If I can't get certified subs, I may have to give classes study hall and have an aide supervise or move them into the study hall in the commons. If possible, we can look at combining classes. I did this with Biology this week and combined 4th and 5th periods. I do appreciate your desire to be here, but I would like you to be healthy.
Homecoming is next week, I encourage you to dress up for the different days. It is fun for the students to see the staff get involved. Homecoming Friday will operate like it has in the past. All students will be dismissed at the end of 4th period. Coronation and the pep rally will begin at 1:00 pm with the parade following, roughly 2-2:15pm. You will be asked to sign up for a job for homecoming week, either supervise float building, help with the parade line up and parade, or help tear down floats. I would encourage you to come to the coronation/pep rally if you did not sign up for parade duty. If you are bored Friday night, we can always use more help at the dance.
Also next week is school picture day. School pictures will be on September 23 and will take place in the senior study center. All 9-11 students and staff will need to get their picture taken. The dress up day on the 23rd is giddy up or tee'd up. So come dressed in western gear or look like you came off the links.
Finally, we have an extra hour meeting next Wednesday to continue or journey into becoming better at what we do. One of the great things about working at the high school is your willingness not to settle and to keep pushing yourself to be better. Your willingness to try new things, have these conversations regarding practice and what happens in the classroom, also pushes me to also be better. Remember if you would like Kyle or I come and observe a class or help in anyway, just let us know. The offer still stands that if you want to visit one of your peer's classrooms, I would be happy to cover your class so you can do that.
Next week is midterm. Grades need to be updated by 8:00 am on the 22nd so midterms can go out.
Enjoy your weekend!

Assistant Principal's Happenings
Just a few reminders for Homecoming: Please dress up! Have some fun as we enter the first Midterm of the year. We only have one lunchtime following dismissal at the end of 4th hour. I will make an announcement for that but please let students know- especially freshmen. They are not required to stay that day either if they would rather have an open lunch. If you are able to stay and watch the Pep Rally, it starts at 1 in the Competition Gym. I sent an email for float builders so please check that out. If you are helping with the route- I will send out locations to be next week Wednesday. Also, thank you to those that signed up (or were asked nicely) for helping with the Dance!
If you have any questions about the jobs let me know too.
We had a few issues we are finding with Schoology. If you are having students say their grades are not matching on Schoology and Powerschool, it is likely due to a missing due date. We found there are times when an assignment is opened back up and it took out the due date and needed to be put back on before the grades transferred over. Encourage students to check this before Midterm next week.
The final part of this Friday Focus is a little more serious. We recently learned there is a new trend on Social Media to trash/steal things, specifically from the bathrooms- for us this year it has mostly been the girl's bathroom. I saw other Student Councils in the area are encouraging students to report issues in their districts and will work with ours to do the same. I am also encouraging staff to check out the bathrooms when they can so we can limit some of these concerns. We will likely have cameras in the halls next year but for now, I am asking that every teacher has a restroom signout/sign in sheet. I will be asking teachers for those lists while we try to determine who has been causing these issues.
Have a great weekend!
