Happy May Day! As a kid, I remember making May Day baskets and delivering them to your friends house. At least in Vermillion, we would leave it by the door, ring the doorbell, and then run. Maybe it was just a Westside Vermillion thing, Deb can speak for what the eastside did.

Next week is Teacher Appreciation Week, and Adam and I will be providing lunch on Friday. I truly appreciate your dedication and willingness to work with students—even when challenging. Your professionalism and commitment to doing what's best for students never wavers.

Just a reminder that all teacher contracts have been handed out, those are due next Friday to Central Office. I do have a trey on my desk if you want to hand it in to me and I'll get it to Central Office. 

Seniors are down to a week. There are a few that are in jeopardy of not making it. Please let me know if you have a senior and that student will not make it. 

At the end of the year, the district will not be holding the end of the year celebration for those retiring. They have decided to do this in individual buildings. We have one staff member who has decided to retire, Tracy Meylor. We will have an open house for her on May 18 at 3:45 in the library. Please come and wish her good luck.

Updates from behind the cart:
(Interestingly, someone informed me that I had "put the cart ahead of the Moss", which is an extremely astute observation and often true!)

Discipline statistics for the last 4 weeks: 
4 Verbal Warnings / 5 ISS / 2 OSS / 27 detentions issued, along with many calls home.  Of these referrals, 8 were phone or tech violations; several truancies; two fights; two prank phone calls; a bus violation; one abduction/ransom attempt of my cart (aka "The Cart of Justice") by a staff member; and a partridge in a pear tree :)

Attendance (10 day) Contracts:
Currently, we have 22 active attendance contracts; 12 of which belong to seniors.  In case you were curious, the following attendance codes count against attendance contracts:  CV, FAM, MED, OSS, SRNP, TRU, UN.  Students with too many absences in these codes receive a "NC" for "no credit" on their transcript unless they serve back the time in detention.  I don't usually notify individual teachers unless they ask -- you just continue to do what you do -- we will take care of the attendance contracts on our end.

I have sent out the initial 9-11 Semester Test list. If students have questions regarding attendance, please send them my way. If a student is removed from the list, I will email his/her teachers directly. I plan to run an update at the end of next week.

Thank you for your continued enforcement of rules and policies as we near the end of the year -- it is always a struggle to maintain consistency and motivation to do so.  Let's finish this year well, together.

  Friday Focus Happy Friday!   I hope everyone has had a great week. Today is midterm of the 1st quarter. Please make sure all grades are up to date. Amy will run midterms and we will hand them out during 8th period.   I have had my first PASS plan turned in, congrats to Ms. Hommes to be the first one to get one done. Unfortuately is is for a senior that needs his credits. Next week is homecoming, let the fun begin. Monday night at 7:30 pm is the coronation. Come out to the competition gym to see who will be crowned this year's King and Queen.  On Monday, we will have class meetings so students can sign up for the different competitions. Freshmen will be in the Little Theater, Sophomores in the Library, Juniors in the Commons, and Seniors in the Competition Gym. Friday Focus  I hope everyone has had a great week! I am out of the building after 11:00 am  attending the state dance competition in Des Moines. I will be out of the building on Monday also. Attending a workshop at Mount Vernon High School. If you put in for a sub late on Monday morning, please let Mr. Moss know via text (541-2785). We only have 7 instructional days and 3 semester test days left in this semester. As we quickly approach the end of the semester there are a few items I want to remind you about to ensure they are completed. 1. Grades are due before you leave on December 19. You will need to verify your Semester 1 grades. Please double check a few calculations to make sure PowerSchool is doing this correctly. Steps to verify your grades: 1. Log into PowerTeacher Pro, 2.
