Happy Friday! I hope everyone has had a great start to the first couple days of school. We had a small hic-cup in lunch with 2nd lunch being huge, but I think we have worked that out.
Just a few reminders about how COVID will be treated this year. Students/Staff that experience symptoms of COVID will be out at least 10 days. People can return with a negative test or alternative diagnosis once they are 24 hour symptom/fever free. If no test is given, then the person is out 10 days and must be 24 hour symptom/fever free before he/she may return. If the person tests positive, then he/she is out 10 days. We will not be contact tracing or telling people they need to quarantine.
We do have our COVID clinic today at the high school. This is available for staff and students. Depending on how many get the shot, some students may have to leave class and will have to wait 15 minutes before returning.
Monday starts our normal advisory period. There are no planned activities for advisory that day. We do have our first screener on Thursday. Please take the time to talk to grades 9-11 about the screener and what it is used for. The screener will help us identify gaps in skills and students that potentially need extra assistance in the success center with those skill gaps. So it is important that they do the best they can on these screeners. We will administer both the reading and math screener in that hour.
Remind students that the doors will not be open until 7:30 am typically. I know yesterday they were opened early because of the rain.
Looking ahead, we have an evac drill on Monday at 9:20 am. We also have our extra hour meeting on Wednesday. CIA will send out an agenda ahead of time.
Have a great weekend! I am sure your voices need the weekend to recover.

Assistant Principal's Happenings
I hope everyone had a great first couple of days! Students typically take a while to start feeling comfortable enough to display behaviors but please continue to stop any inappropriate behaviors now that you see. Don't just let them slide as students will think that it is acceptable. If you haven't filled out the teacher duty locations yet, I will be looking at that this weekend to finish up the year. Also, make sure you are in the halls between passing times as that helps reduce a lot of the issues we had towards the end of last year. In the morning make sure you are having students either go to a classroom or the Commons. Students should only be in the halls if they are heading to those locations. If we have kids walking around constantly bring them down to the office if they continue.
Please make sure everyone is updating attendance when students get to class. The first couple of days always has a lot of freshmen trying to figure out where to go and they may be a little late. It is important to keep an accurate count of these as we need to know where students are at all times.
I have made a lot of changes to the aide schedule the past two days as students move classes and we have more needs in other locations. As a reminder, we have 25 more Special Education Students than last year. We are limited on the availability of aides during a couple periods due to this increase. Please work closely with the Special Education Teachers and Aides to make sure we are meeting their needs.
Finally, enjoy your weekend!
