Happy Friday! It is hard to believe we completed another week. For me, these weeks are flying by to fast. I didn't think that was possible. I am still working on the master schedule for next year. I am waiting to hear back from Western Iowa Tech regarding a couple college classes that we are hoping to bring back in the science department. Once I hear about those, I will need to open registration back up for the Juniors and Seniors to allow them to add these courses if they want. My goal is to have schedules done by the end of April so I can get the master schedule out to you and the student schedules out so they can make any changes if necessary. Next week we do have only a 4 day week, so this will be the Friday Focus for next week as well. Hopefully you will have a chance to have some time to relax over spring break! When we come back on April 7, we do have a 7:00 am meeting. Prom is on April 10, I will be visiting with Plymouth County P...

Happy Friday! As everyone has heard, our Covid rates are going up in the community. Our county rate is 9.9 and our zip code rate was 16.1 on Tuesday. We have also seen an uptick in the number of positive cases in the building. It is vital that you are enforcing the mask policy in your classroom. Kyle and I will be checking for enforcement as we go around the school. This is something we shouldn't have to do. Regardless of your personal feelings or beliefs, masks must be worn at all times by students. You need to wear a mask whenever you are not alone in your classroom.  You have probably all seen the the UK variant has been found in Plymouth County. From what I understand, it doesn't pose a greater health risk, but it is more contagious.  Track and Soccer participants do not have to wear the masks when they are running the hallways. If they are standing around, they should have them on. Hopefully this snow melts soon and they can be ba...

Happy Friday and end of third quarter! We are starting to go down the home stretch. Grades will be due Monday at 8:00 am. Report cards will then be mailed home. Please make sure you have comments in Q3. If you have a senior who will not mathematically pass your class for the semester, let me know ASAP. I will be sending out at-risk letters on Tuesday. I want to be able to correctly identify who those seniors are that are at-risk of not graduating.  We are starting to see a rise in the county Covid rates in the last week. This morning, our 14 day average was 8.3 and the 7 day average was 10.6. We need to stay on the students about wearing their masks. Remind them if we see a spike in school positives along with what is happening in the community, prom could be in jeopardy.  Thank you for your work on Wednesday during in-service. I know the ISASP training video was not the most exciting video in the world to watch, but we had to get it done bef...

Happy Friday! The end of this week kind of snuck up on me for some reason. Don't forget to get our second vaccine shot tonight if you are scheduled.  The end of the 3rd quarter is next Friday, 3/12. Grades will be due on Monday, 3/15 at 8:00 am. I will store the quarter grades and then Amy will run the report cards. At that time, I will be sending senior at-risk letters home. Please make sure you have comments for students who are not doing well in class. Also, make sure you are either notifying parents you are extending the PASS Plan from 1st semester or are scheduling a meeting. All PASS Plans should be complete by April 16. You can access the PASS Plan spreadsheet in your drive.  I will be starting to schedule department meetings to go over course numbers and to determine how many sections of classes are needed. Once we get this phase done, then we will start working on the master schedule. Some of this may have to wait until we hire the new posi...

Happy Friday! Looks like we had a very successful week in our various winter activities. We had 7 of our 14 large group speech entries selected as All-State, Colton Hoag placed 4 at state wrestling, the girls bowling team brought home a state championship, and the boys bowling team finished in 7th place.  Today marks the beginning of our 3rd trimester. Second trimester grades will be due on March 1. All teachers should have received an email from Kim regarding requisitions for next school year. I now have my information, so requisitions are due by March 15. If you know you will need some items throughout the year from Walmart or other local places, please let me know. I need to develop my budget and get it turned into Sandy. If I don't budget for it, you may not be able to get it later on. Make sure you follow Kim's instructions. The description should have FY21-22. I will put a procedures sheet in your mailbox today. You may have seen there is a ...

Happy Friday! I hope everyone had a great week! It appears we will have a heat wave coming at us the beginning of next week. Who thought 40 degrees sounded like a heat wave?  On Monday, Judd and Melissa will be registering grades 9-11 for next year. The 8th graders have all been registered. I hope by the first week in March we will have solid numbers to hold department meetings.  There has been some confusion on when the end of the quarter will be. I do have March 12 down as the end and that is the way PowerSchool is set up also. Then end of the 2nd trimester is Thursday. Grades will be due on March 1.  I have gone around and asked about summer maintenance. Some of the request I received are normal maintenance issues that if you email Mike it can get fixed sooner. Anything that poses a safety risk should also be emailed to Mike and I so that it can be fixed right away. If you have a question on if something can be repaired now rather than the s...

Happy Friday! I hope everyone has a chance to enjoy some relaxation and stays warm during this 3 day weekend.  Thank you for your work during in-service this week. CIA believed this year needed to be about giving time to get your curriculum on Schoology. Looking ahead to next school year, we will be getting back to our normal in-service/extra hour meetings using the PLC framework to guide our instruction and work during pd time.  This past week we have made some staff additions for the 21-22 school year. Joining us in the Science department will be Cortney Nelson. Cortney is currently student teaching with us. She will be teaching Biology next year and will be in room 131. We also hired Ken Vigdal to be the next head football coach at LCHS. Ken will be teaching in the middle school. Also next year, we will be starting a new Computer Science program. Our CS program will be led by Gabe Davis as he joins us from the middle school. Gabe will be in room 120. Wh...
