Happy Friday! I hope everyone had a good week. Seniors will be down to 10 days. I have about 18 of them I am watching to make sure they pass what they need to graduate. For a couple of them, I think I am more stressed about it then they are.  It is amazing how busy this time of year gets. Spring sport seasons are really going, we are getting ready for graduation, the counselors are working with kids on their schedules for next year, etc. Please take some time to enjoy the moment and relax when you can.  At the LCS Foundation Banquet on Wednesday, Paul Fischer was honored for his 25 years of employment at LCHS. Also celebrating their 25th year were Joanne Koth, Dawn MacGregor, Eric Peterson, Leigha Scheitler, and Leroy Wichers. Employees of the Month were also recognized again, Cliff Collins was the February honoree. Also, the top 5% of the class of 2023 were recognized, they are: Meredith A...

Happy Friday! I hope everyone had a great week. Today is our last midterm date of the school year. Midterms will be printed off and sent home with the students. These will be passed out at the end of 8th period.  On Monday, I will be meeting with seniors during advisory to go over graduation items. We will meet in the little theater. Seniors are down to 15 days of class not including today. If you have a senior failing a class, please make sure you are contacting parents and asking the student to come in before or after school to make up work or retake tests. My last check had 32 seniors failing one or more classes. Now not all of those seniors need to pass the class to graduate, but many do.  In the coming weeks, Mrs. Leavitt will be sending out more information regarding the extra pd hours for next year that you will be paid for to make up for the money you would lose from our new pd format....

Happy Friday! I hope everyone has had a great week with the warm weather. Looks like it could be little cooler this weekend. It is hard to believe we are already half way through April. Then end is in sight. Speaking of the end in sight, we have several seniors that are really digging a hole in terms of their grades. I will be talking to the 17 seniors that are failing a class needed for graduation today.  We do have our master schedule done for next year. Judd and Melissa are going through the student's schedules to make sure the students have all the required courses in there. We will be handing out student schedules soon. During advisory on Monday, the students will need to take the Conditions for Learning survey. We do have some students that the parents have turned in the form to excuse them from the survey. I will send out those names later today. Please just have those students sit quietly or re...

Happy Friday! We made it through ISASP and now just one more day and we will have made it through Prom. With no school next Friday, the next Friday Focus will be on April 14.  As we exit March and enter April, the number of school days is quickly winding down. Counting today, the seniors have 28 classroom days left. They will have their semester tests on May 15 & 16. For all the early planners, Seniors will need to have all tests done by the end of 4th period on the 16th. Grades will be due by 3:30 pm on the 16th so Amy can run the final awards for Wednesday night. Senior awards are at 6:30 pm on the 17th in the MS auditorium.  There are several seniors I am keeping an eye on as they are failing a class needed to meet graduation requirements. Please make sure you are keeping Senior parents updated if their student is failing a class. A quick email home could be enough of a spark to get the student t...

Happy Friday! I hope everyone had a great week. Next week is ISASP week. Please reinforce with students to do their best. We are evaluating an proposal that would give opens to Juniors who are proficient on ISASP their Freshmen and Sophomore year and meet a certain GPA requirement. You can let the students know that the administration is looking into this as a way to help motivate students.  Just a reminder during ISASP, please keep students in the classroom. If you hear noises in the hallway, please stick your head out of your room and get the students moving to where they should be. The reading and math subtests will be on Monday and Tuesday and the writing and science subtest will be on Wednesday and Thursday.  I have met with a number of seniors who were failing classes at the quarter. If you have a senior that is failing a class, especially a core class please keep on them to get their grade up....

Happy Friday! I hope everyone had a great week. I will not be here next Friday, so I am going to have this be the Friday Focus for the next 2 weeks. Tanner has his state swim meet in Fremont, Nebraska. He will be swimming 9 events in 3 days. One final reminder that requisitions are due on Monday. Please make sure that you have included shipping on your requisition as that will also need to come out of your line item. The end of the quarter is on the 15th, grades will be due Friday morning at 8:00 am. Amy will run report cards that day. Mr. Formanek will also come out with the ineligible list that day. In order to remain eligible, students need to pass 4 full time classes. If a student is ineligible, he/she will sit the 4th quarter per our policy. I have been asked about snow make up days, the board will discuss this matter at the Monday board meeting. I want to remind you that it is not appropriate for yo...

Happy Friday! It is hard to believe we are already in March. I am scheduling number meetings for 2023-2024 school year. I have a few today and rest next week. Hopefully I will be able to get a master schedule done by the end of the month. We have hired a new English teacher, Victor Mena. He will be joining us from Akron-Westfield. Victor is a Northwestern graduate and a native of Phoenix, Arizona. Our new math teacher next year will be Colby Roos. He will be graduating from Morningside this spring. He completed his student teaching at North High School. Colby is originally from Sergeant Bluff. Thomas Vigdal has been hired as our computer science teacher. Thomas currently teaches at Heelan and is an Iowa State alum. We are still advertising for the Ag and Auto positions. Don't forget about requisitions for next school year. Please refer back the handout that was in your mailbox. If you have a quote, please make sure you attach ...
