Happy Friday! We made it through ISASP and now just one more day and we will have made it through Prom. With no school next Friday, the next Friday Focus will be on April 14.
As we exit March and enter April, the number of school days is quickly winding down. Counting today, the seniors have 28 classroom days left. They will have their semester tests on May 15 & 16. For all the early planners, Seniors will need to have all tests done by the end of 4th period on the 16th. Grades will be due by 3:30 pm on the 16th so Amy can run the final awards for Wednesday night. Senior awards are at 6:30 pm on the 17th in the MS auditorium.
There are several seniors I am keeping an eye on as they are failing a class needed to meet graduation requirements. Please make sure you are keeping Senior parents updated if their student is failing a class. A quick email home could be enough of a spark to get the student through the class.
Midterm and cutoff date for all PASS Plans is April 21. Please make sure you have contacted any parents prior to that day. Semester tests for grades 9-11 will be on May 30, 31, and June 1. This will be the schedule:

I have been working on our districts DCAP -District Career Academic Plan. The CTE teachers and Counselors are probably more familiar with this than the rest of the staff. The DCAP outlines different areas of college and career readiness. One of the areas is work based learning. This has been a big push throughout the state the past several years. There are some things we are doing with our students that not everyone may be aware of. We have developed partnerships with several local industries to create internship and apprenticeship opportunities for our students. The difference between internship and apprenticeship is usually on what type of tasks the student is completing and if the student is being paid. In the past several years, we have had a few students doing an apprenticeship at Total Motors. These students have gone through the auto program their sophomore and junior years and then will work at Total their senior year. We have also placed some of these students at AgriVision. Le Mars Ford is also wanting to start in this endeavor.
We also have been working with Wells and BoDeans in the manufacturing world. Students can take the manufacturing exploration class to learn more about the different careers available in those industries. For students interested in the health field, we have the health exploration class. There they will have placements at Floyd Valley and their facilities and will rotate around to different departments to learn more about different specialized services/careers they may decide to go to postsecondary education for. We are always looking for more partners and opportunities for our students to have these experiences.
Looking ahead, the last evac drill will be on April 12 at 10:10 am. Midterm is on April 21, midterm report cards will be sent home with the students that day.

Assistant Principal's Happenings
Great job making it through ISASP week. I have heard from teachers that they saw a lot more effort from students and they have made a lot of progress this year. Thank you for taking the time to explain the importance and change up class this week so we can hopefully see some great improvements. I know the possibility of Opens for Juniors next year has motivated many to try harder. I will be sending out more instructions tomorrow to Sophomore and Junior Advisors to discuss with students on Monday in Advisory. Please make sure they open up the document and read the expectations with you so everyone understands what to do to earn Opens.
We have had an increase in concerns with the bathrooms and locker rooms again for some vandalism. If you are able, please quickly check the stalls to see if you notice any drawings and encourage students to report anything they may see. Our goal is to limit the time frame so we have a better idea of who is doing the vandalism.
As Dr. Iverson mentioned above, we have been meeting with Seniors who are in danger of not graduating. We will be making some schedule changes with some of them as we have a few who are not going to be graduating if they don't start putting in the effort. Please keep encouraging these students to finish out as we have less than 30 days left with them.
Thank you everyone for your hard work during the long months before Spring. I hope everyone enjoys their Easter Break and spends some good quality time with family!
Reused from last year but more accurate every year!
