Happy Friday! I hope everyone had a great week! Next week will be midterm of the 3rd quarter. It is hard to believe how fast this semester is already moving. Today the girls wrestling team will be attempting to qualify for state wrestling tournament. Their regional sight is at the Tyson Event Center in Sioux City.  Before we know it, ISASP will be quickly on us. We want to start stressing to students the importance of these scores. Please talk about how we have been designated as a target school. Talk about what it means to be targeted. Talk to them about why it is important that they do their best on this test. You can share with them the Iowa School Performance profile and show how scores are figured out. Tell them about what this means for them. If you need some talking points, please see me and I would be happy to assist you. Whatever we do though, we need the students to understand how the state uses this data and what it means for them....

Happy Friday! I hope everyone had a chance to enjoy the snow day yesterday and the 2 hour late start today. According to my calculations, this puts up to 45 hours missed.  We are now a couple weeks into the new semester. If you have students that need additional help, we do have room in the success center. Please let Kyle or myself know if you have a student that you think would benefit being in there. As I said in my previous email, you can carry over PASS Plans from last semester. However, if you were not a part of the original PASS Plan, then you will need to have a meeting to set up a plan for your class.  Midterm of 3rd quarter will be quickly upon us. Please make sure all grades are up to date as Amy will run midterms on Friday, Feb. 3. These will be handed out during 8th period that day.  I would like to congratulate Mr. Van Kley for moving into the instructional coach role next school year. He will be missed in the classroom, but ...

Happy Friday! I hope everyone had a great full week of school. I will be out of the building today as Tanner was selected to represent Midwestern swimming at the All-Star swim meet in Des Moines this weekend. He will be swimming against other all-star teams from Colorado, North Dakota, South Dakota, Missouri, Kansas, and Iowa.  As we move forward in second semester our district inservice time will have a little different focus in February. Steve McHugh, from Northwest AEA will be presenting strategies the our CIA team thought would be valuable after attending the SIOP training. SIOP stands for Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol. This is the framework for planning and delivering instruction to English language learners as well as other students. The special education teachers started on a new journey on Wednesday, learning more about SDI (Specially Designed Instruction). CIA will come out with more details regarding the February inservice dat...

Happy Friday! This has been a rough start to semester 2. Hopefully the weather starts cooperating so we don't have many more late start/no school days. By my count, we are at 35.5 hrs. missed. As we start second semester, it is important to get students started in the right direction. For those students who struggled first semester, please don't wait too long to reach out to their parents to make arrangements to get extra help. We do have room in the success center during a few periods, so also don't be afraid to refer students to Kyle or I to be placed in the success center.  Some formalities to go through as we start the semester. Please go over the lockdown/lockout/shelter/evac info with your students. Remind them of the ALICE procedures that we should use if ever the need shall arise. Also I want to take the time to remind you of FERPA. I will be sending an article that was in the SAI newsletter this month that discusses FERPA and who has rights to st...

Happy Friday!   I will keep this short. W e have made it through the last full week of 2022! With finals starting today, I want to take the moment to thank you for your work this semester. This last week and a half with the snow days, late starts, and early outs didn't help in trying to get things done before the test. I understand the extra stress that may have caused, but you can exhale now as this semester will soon be over.  Students will be expected to stay for the entire test period. They are not to leave to go home or another class without a pass from the office or the teacher they want to go to. If a student stays for study hall, they will need to be in the commons and not wandering around. Please let the students know this.  Before you leave on Tuesday, I will need you to verify your grades are complete. Please refer back to last weeks Friday Focus if you don't remember or know how to do this.  Enjoy your break and have a Merry...

Happy Friday!  As we draw closer to the end of the semester, please make sure if you still have incompletes from 1st quarter those get updated. Semester tests will be on December 16 (odd periods) and December 19 (even periods). The make up day will be December 20. Grades will be due before you leave on the 20th along with PASS Plan summaries. Please put those in the box on my door. For the grades, please make sure you put comments under Semester 1 (S1) and verify your grades are complete. This video will assist you on how to do this. Verification Video by Adam Moss. On Wednesday, the steering committee that was established because of our targeted status had chance to meet with the AEA to start our process of developing a plan. At the meeting, we looked at our data off the Iowa Performance Profile and identified the areas we want to focus on. We are only listed for targeted for our IEP students, however, or EL students barely scored over the cut score to not be ...

Happy Friday! I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving break and was able to see family and have a chance just to relax. I will be out of the building today, so if you need something please either email or check with Kyle. I will be able to check my email's occasionally throughout the day.  I have been talking with Seniors that are failing classes that would put their graduation at risk. They have all been told to talk with the teacher whose class they are failing. Please let me know if you have a senior failing and they haven't talked to you yet. I will follow up with them again on Monday. They only...
