Happy Friday! This has been a rough start to semester 2. Hopefully the weather starts cooperating so we don't have many more late start/no school days. By my count, we are at 35.5 hrs. missed.
As we start second semester, it is important to get students started in the right direction. For those students who struggled first semester, please don't wait too long to reach out to their parents to make arrangements to get extra help. We do have room in the success center during a few periods, so also don't be afraid to refer students to Kyle or I to be placed in the success center.
Some formalities to go through as we start the semester. Please go over the lockdown/lockout/shelter/evac info with your students. Remind them of the ALICE procedures that we should use if ever the need shall arise. Also I want to take the time to remind you of FERPA. I will be sending an article that was in the SAI newsletter this month that discusses FERPA and who has rights to student educational records. If you would ever accidently disclose something about another student to someone else, please inform Kyle or I about the incident. When we acknowledge a mistake has been made and come up with a remedy we can avoid other issues especially if there was an attempt to cover it up.
We are still working through registration. On Thursday, the 8th graders will be visiting the CTE classrooms to learn about those pathways. On the 24th, we will be hosting our annual 8th grade parent night. Then later that week the counselors will actually register the 8th graders. Hopefully by the end of February we will be able to start to have our number meetings to go over sections for the 23-24 school year.
The School Board is having their annual retreat on January 23. Our MTSS committee will be sharing what we are doing in regards to SEL with our students. The other levels will also be sharing their SEL journey. The other topic will be lead by the elementary regarding the Science of Reading.
We do have a district in-service day on January 11. CIA will be sending out more details regarding what will happen on Wednesday.
Have a Great Weekend!

Assistant Principal's Happenings
Welcome back everyone! I hope you all had a great Winter Break and had some time to refresh on the year. We have had a lot of disruption from winter weather and I expect there will be more before the end of the winter season. Nothing has been determined yet but please be aware the School Board will likely add school days to the end of the calendar.
During Advisory on Monday please go over the expectations for the Second Semester Finals. Semester test will count for 10% of semester grade for both semesters. Second Semester - Students must have no grades lower than a C- for each quarter. Second Semester - Students who accumulate 5 or more unexcused absences or 6 or more tardies in a class will take that semester test for that class. Any student who is excused from taking their final test may opt to take the test to improve their grade without having their final grade lowered. Semester tests are given the last two days of 2nd semester. 7. All Students have open lunch on the days of Semester Tests. 8. Students issued an in-school, or out-of-school suspension, or have a truant are required to take all semester tests.
1. Teachers must keep accurate account of attendance. 2. Second Semester - The Office will send out a list the last week of students who do not qualify. 3. Second Semester - Students are excused the last two days, if they have no tests to take. 4. Second Semester - Students need only come to those classes whose test they must take because of grade or attendance. 5. Students may leave the test only after the test period is completed. 6. Final exams must be taken if required or course credit will not be issued.
We have a lot of truants for the start of the first semester- if all of them were true we would have around 50 students already taking the tests. Please update attendance so students are not blaming teachers in May that attendance wasn't done correctly.
