Happy Friday! I hope everyone had a chance to enjoy the snow day yesterday and the 2 hour late start today. According to my calculations, this puts up to 45 hours missed. 

We are now a couple weeks into the new semester. If you have students that need additional help, we do have room in the success center. Please let Kyle or myself know if you have a student that you think would benefit being in there. As I said in my previous email, you can carry over PASS Plans from last semester. However, if you were not a part of the original PASS Plan, then you will need to have a meeting to set up a plan for your class. 

Midterm of 3rd quarter will be quickly upon us. Please make sure all grades are up to date as Amy will run midterms on Friday, Feb. 3. These will be handed out during 8th period that day. 

I would like to congratulate Mr. Van Kley for moving into the instructional coach role next school year. He will be missed in the classroom, but he will also be a great resource for all of you next year. 

The winter sports regular seasons will be starting to wind down in the next few weeks and tournament play will begin. Our girl's wrestling team will be the first to start post season matchups on the 27th. They will have their regional tournament in Sioux City at Tyson Events Center.

During the district in-service day in February, we will have Steve McHugh from the AEA come and discuss SIOP strategies. The CIA group has already attended 2 days of SIOP training and they have 2 more days coming up next week. These strategies can be used for all students, but they will also assist you with the EL students. Right now, we do have the most EL kids in the district in our building. SPED teachers will continue to have their SDI training. This will take place in Mrs. Schindel and Mrs. Vickery's room again. 

Mrs. Leavitt and I completed the resource allocation step that is part of us being a targeted school. The other part that was suppose to be in January is now on March 20 and 21. The team will be attending a workshop in Sioux City those two days to complete our plan. This will complete the work we need to do for year 1. Year 2 and 3 is just carrying out the plan. 

Before we know it, ISASP will be quickly on us. We want to start stressing to students the importance of these scores. Please talk about how we have been designated as a target school. Talk about what it means to be targeted. Talk to them about why it is important that they do their best on this test. You can share with them the Iowa School Performance profile and show how scores are figured out. Tell them about what this means for them. If you need some talking points, please see me and I would be happy to assist you. Whatever we do though, we need the students to understand how the state uses this data and what it means for them.

Assistant Principal's Happenings

I hope you all had a great week, for only 2 school days for me, it has been busy trying to keep up with everything.  Please remember to email me after we discuss issues with students and I will get to them.

This time of the year always seems to bring up some drama between students.  I have a couple of incidents this week.  These are often complicated with no simple solution as much of it occurs on Social Media giving us speculative evidence on who is involved.  What we can do is be in the hallways between classes and encourage students to treat each other with respect.  I will be emailing teachers if there are concerns between students if you have both in a classroom.

We are down to 7 Incompletes from the first semester.  Please reach out to those students and give them deadlines to finish up their Semester.  If you need me to meet with them to speed them along let me know as we need to have those grades finalized.

If you aren't busy tonight feel free to stop and help out at the Dance!

  Friday Focus  Happy Friday! I hope everyone had a great week.  On Monday, I attended a DCAP workshop. You may be asking what is a DCAP workshop? DCAP is our District Career Academic Plan. Just like the student ICAP, Individual Career Academic Plan, the district must have one also. In the DCAP, we spell out what we are doing to prepare our students for college career readiness and employability skills. The DCAP consists of 7 sections, the main sections deal with course planning, work-based learning, and 5 essential components of ICAP.  The course planning section deals with the students 4 year plan and how the students and parents are advised on progress towards graduation. This is why we have the grade level registration meetings, our 8th grade CTE day, 8th grade parent meeting, etc so we can meet this requirement.  I am sure by this point, you are asking yourself how does this apply to me?   Friday Focus Happy Friday! I hope everyone had a great week. We made it through graduation breakfast, practice, and award night. I was thinking that Wednesday is just as about as busy of a day as the Friday of homecoming for me.  This will be the last Friday Focus for the school year, so I'll try to remember to have everything you need to know to get through the last week of classes. Please remember contracts are due to Central Office on the 23rd. I do have a basket on my desk where you can turn it into me and I'll get it to Central Office.   We will be running the advisory schedule on Monday. On Tuesday, we will use the last day of school schedule. On the last day of classes students will be checking out. Please sign their check out sheets. If they have school property that needs to be returned, please document it on the sheet. During advisory that day, they will turn in their laptops.   Friday Focus Happy Friday!   I hope everyone has had a great week. Today is midterm of the 1st quarter. Please make sure all grades are up to date. Amy will run midterms and we will hand them out during 8th period.   I have had my first PASS plan turned in, congrats to Ms. Hommes to be the first one to get one done. Unfortuately is is for a senior that needs his credits. Next week is homecoming, let the fun begin. Monday night at 7:30 pm is the coronation. Come out to the competition gym to see who will be crowned this year's King and Queen.  On Monday, we will have class meetings so students can sign up for the different competitions. Freshmen will be in the Little Theater, Sophomores in the Library, Juniors in the Commons, and Seniors in the Competition Gym. Teachers with the asterick by their name in the Teacher Handbook are the lead teachers and will need to take charge of these meetings.  Dress up days for Homecoming Week. YOU CAN PARTICIPATE!...
