Happy Friday!  As we draw closer to the end of the semester, please make sure if you still have incompletes from 1st quarter those get updated. Semester tests will be on December 16 (odd periods) and December 19 (even periods). The make up day will be December 20. Grades will be due before you leave on the 20th along with PASS Plan summaries. Please put those in the box on my door. For the grades, please make sure you put comments under Semester 1 (S1) and verify your grades are complete. This video will assist you on how to do this. Verification Video by Adam Moss.

On Wednesday, the steering committee that was established because of our targeted status had chance to meet with the AEA to start our process of developing a plan. At the meeting, we looked at our data off the Iowa Performance Profile and identified the areas we want to focus on. We are only listed for targeted for our IEP students, however, or EL students barely scored over the cut score to not be targeted. You can look at the data summary here. You will notice that growth in ELA and Math were low for IEP and EL students. The percent proficient was also well below the state average. We choose growth as our main focus even though percent proficient shows a bigger deficit from the state because growth accounted for 48.94% of the IEP total score, where percent proficient counted for 12.64%. With EL students growth made up 41.64% and percent proficient is 10.74%.

The next step occurs on January 4 as Mrs. Leavitt and I meet with the AEA to look at the financial side and how resources are allocated. Later in January, the committee will meet again for 2 days to come up and finalize our plan. The plan has to be finished by the end of June. Then we implement the plan for the 23-24 and 24-25 school years.

On Thursday, I had 2 virtual school safety assessment meetings. These meetings are part of Governor Reynold's plan to improve school safety. This is the first step, next week we will have a physical assessment of the building done. By going through this process, we will get up to $50,000 to use to improve school security for each building. The high school and alternative high school are considered separate buildings, that is why I have 2 separate meetings.

Looking ahead, we a have a shelter drill on the 14th at 1:10 pm.

Have a great weekend!

Assistant Principal's Happenings

I hope you enjoyed a couple of extra hours sleeping in and being able to leave a little early.  Please be prepared for next week as we have some more chances of winter weather.  I recommend having plenty of time to have students prepare for their finals and build in reviews on Schoology so they can start reviewing at home.  Please take care of your health this time of the year.  We have had a large number of students getting sick at school and I know the staff hasn't been feeling the greatest either.

We completed the second set of tardy detentions during the early-out on Wednesday.  Hopefully, that will be a deterrence for the next semester and we will have more students coming to class on time.  I still have about 15 students that will finish their time on the make-up day after Semesters.

If you have Freshman, Sophomores, or Seniors please go over the computer check-out sheet with them during Advisory.  We will have to get the Juniors after winter break due to a class meeting.  We have already found several missing chargers by just having students review their computer tags.  Also, talk about grades and our academic policy.  If a student fails a course, they will be ineligible for 30 days for any extra-curricular activity which carries over to the following year as well if it isn't served.

We have a lot of student activities coming up before the break.  The Holiday Concert is next Monday and we have four home basketball events in the coming weeks.
