LCHS Friday Focus

Happy Friday! Next week marks the end of the 19-20 school year. Thank you for all you have done this year and especially during this difficult time dealing with the pandemic. On Monday and Tuesday, we will have the students entering the school to clean out lockers and to turn in their books. Those of you working the doors will highlight students as they enter.  This will help us keep track of who does not show up.  The outside doors will remain locked and you will need to open the door to let the next group in.  At the doors, we will have tables positioned for students to put classroom books and computers on, there will be boxes for free reading books that belong to our English teachers, and boxes for music for Band, Choir, or Orchestra. We will also have hanging racks for tuxes or dress from the music department. Those that are working the senior door will need to check to make sure they filled out their post-secondary plan sheet. Happy Teacher Appreciation Week! Since I missed out on making lunch for all of you, I'll make sure I do that this fall when we start the school year. Thank you for all you have done this year and during this time when things have been anything but a normal end of the school year. I have had a chance to meet with every department but CTE and the Music staff. I'll meet with them today. It sounds like we are having fewer students accessing the enrichments. Just a reminder that we need to keep providing the enrichments so we can count these as school days under the voluntary enrichment plan.  In the next few weeks Kyle and I will be brainstorming many "what if's" for how next year could start or how it could look. I am kind of superstitious, so if I have plans for scenarios, we won't need them and we will have a normal start.  I am going to cancel our department meetings for the week of May 18 and schedule a large all staff meeting for May 22. Happy Friday, and Happy May Day, I be at home waiting for all those May Day baskets to be left at my doorstep. Do kids even do that anymore? I remember doing this throughout my childhood.  I really don't have many updates to give this week. Kyle and I went through the student lockers and pulled textbooks and reading books we could identify belonged to the school. We placed these materials in the commons. If you want to stop in and see if any of the materials are yours, please just let me know so we don't have more than 10 at school at a time.  Dr. Webner sent an email regarding PPE and students coming to get their items and turn our stuff in. Since we will be around the students, please wear a mask. Happy Friday! It was nice to see of you this week. I look forward to these meetings as way to stay in touch. In the Spanish group meeting we talked about  how terrible it  would be to do business this way all  the time. It is hard to see  the different personalities of each person.  In our other groups we had some good discussion on the enrichments and some of our frustrations on the lack of students doing some of the enrichments. Just remember we do have some students working on these lessons and they are growing academically. I know my thought process during this  time has been to  do what is best for the students, which I know  all of you  are thinking that  way also. Happy Friday! We just completed week 5 of our COVID 19 closure. Thank you for getting lessons online for our students. On Tuesday, Amy Davis and I handed out the fundraiser items to the Juniors that sold them. Many of the students I talked to echoed how they are missing school and seeing us. Most of them were appreciative for the lessons that are being posted.  Teachers, Administrative Assistance, Nurse, and Counselors should have received their contracts for next year in the mail. Please make sure you sign your contract and send it back in with the enclosed envelope. As for the aides, your contracts will be mailed out as soon as Kyle and I have met with Dr. Webner to discuss our aide time for next year. Since the Governor didn't announce what will happen to us yesterday, we should find out today at 11:00 am.  I will be calling the students who do not have internet access to see if they would like paper copies of the lessons. Happy Friday! I hope everyone is doing well 4 weeks into our virtual learning. Next week kicks off a new phase of our virtual learning. As we move towards creating lessons that focus on new content, please remember to consult with the Sped and/or Ell teachers. We want to make sure we have lessons appropriate for those students as well.  Our biggest debate now in Cabinet is how do we get materials for those who do not have internet at home. The elementary buildings have this a little bit easier, as those teachers see 25-28 kids. Some of you see over 175 students in a day. If you have not had a chance to fill out the google spreadsheet on internet access for your advisory please do so. This document will help Cabinet come up with a plan for those kids without internet. If you do not remember or were not there that day, please contact your  advisory students to see what they have access to. Happy Friday! I hope everyone is still going strong 3 weeks into our social distancing. It will be interesting to see how history books refer to this time. Just think about the new phrases that have popped up just because of this virus.  Yesterday Governor Reynolds closed schools until April 30. Because of this, we will continue to do enrichments, but are encouraging you to do new material. This still can't be required or graded, but we want to make sure students have the opportunity to learn the material. Please don't try to cover everything you would have covered for the reminder of the year, just pick the items that the students may need to know in the future. Only have 2-3 goals per week. More guidance on this will be coming next week.  At the same time, please start thinking how we will need to start next year. As a former social studies teacher, I know that a student not getting all the content in World History is not going to impact a student in American History. ...
