Happy Friday! I hope everyone had a great week.
Now is a good time to remind you about open records request and emails. Remember as public school employees, your emails do fall under open records request. An email constitutes an official public record when the document is made or received in connections to your job. This includes emails sent from home computers, personal cell phones, or made off a personal email account. So if you are typing an email, and you don't want it in the paper, watch what you say. Emailing other staff members to vent about a student could be seen by others you didn't intend to see it. For more about open record laws and email visit https://educateiowa.gov/resources/legal-resources/legal-lessons/open-records-law-and-emails.
School pictures are on Thursday. I do want everyone to get their picture taken so please plan to do this before classes start so Kyle or I don't have to come and get you.
The school has moved to an automated system for calling when students are absent. So it is very important for you to make sure you mark students absent when they are not there, but then to change it to tardy if they show up. They system will call home for any student that has a truant code. We have had several people call back saying they dropped their student off. When Amy and Deb double check, the student will be in class.
Reminder midterm is on the 21st. If you have not already, now would be a good time to start making contact with parents if their student is struggling.
Have a great weekend! Cheer on Oklahoma as they take on Nebraska on Saturday.

Assistant Principal's Happenings
Thank you to everyone that signed up for Homecoming Duties. I will go around and meet with you individually to talk about your duties on those days. They are pretty much just keep people organized and moving during the parade. We will be voting on King and Queen next week so please remind students to check their emails.
With Mid-term next week please remind Seniors they can lose opens if they are failing classes as they are a privilege not a right. If they are close, I will develop a plan and check in with them until they either improve or we have to remove opens to give them more time to study at school.
We did have some students walking in the building early this week as they cut over to the football game. The issue was they were opening doors along the way and going into some classrooms. At this time I don't think anything was taken but please make sure you are locking your doors when you leave so we don't have to worry about figuring out if something was stolen or damaged.
I would like to highlight what Dr. Iverson said about fixing attendance. While families in the past could check attendance now they will also receive a message if their child is truant. Please make sure to update the attendance as soon as possible to avoid incorrect attendance errors.
Too bad Urban Meyer couldn't make it to Nebraska sooner to beat Oklahoma!
