Happy Friday!  Everyone survived picture day yesterday. Thank you for your cooperation and patience with all the interruptions during the morning.

We have now passed the 1st quarter mid term. If you have students struggling, please start making contact with the parents. I quick phone call can save time later on. The communication with parents tells us a lot of what we need to know about the student. I know when I talk to parents, I find out right away what kind of support we can expect. If you have a student that would benefit from the success center, let one of the counselor or Kyle and I know so we can make the schedule change. Of the 695 students currently enrolled at the high school, 163 have at least one "F" at midterm.

I do have a few seniors I am keeping my eyes on because of credits and their midterm grades. I will be talking with the ones that could be at risk of not graduating.

Just a quick update on the alternative school. We currently have 45 students enrolled there. We have 23 seniors, 17 juniors, and 6 sophomores. Typically we don't have that many sophomores, but we had a couple that had a delayed start to the school year or they came to us short on credits for how old they are.

With homecoming next week, I encourage you to participate in the dress up days. If you need 70's clothing, I am sure Mr. Irwin has some left you can borrow. Monday is 50-60's sock hop, Tuesday is 70's disco, Wednesday is 80's Pump it Up, Thursday is 2000's Icons, and Friday is Spirit Day. On Friday, students will be dismissed after 4th period. The pep rally/coronation starts at 1:00 pm with the parade following. The freshmen will take on the Webster City Lynx starting at 4:15pm. The varsity team will follow at 7:00 pm. For those with nothing to do after the game, the homecoming dance starts after the game and goes to midnight.

Jostens will be here Monday during advisory to talk to sophomores about class rings. After that they will talk to the seniors about caps and gowns. Seniors will be late to 3rd period that day.

Have a great weekend! Cheer on Oklahoma as they take on Kansas State on Saturday.

Assistant Principal's Happenings

It's Homecoming week!  Please dress up and enjoy the week!  I will be talking to the workers this next week to go over duties during the parade and coronation.  I could use a couple extra workers to sign up for the parade route as we need one person at each intersection.  Officer Vickery will be getting me a cheat sheet so you know what to watch for during the parade to keep it running safely.  Please remind your advisories that we have an early out on Friday after 4th hour.  If you have Freshman remind them they are allowed to leave if they don't want to stay for lunch, we will only run one lunch that day right after 4th hour.  Remember to keep up expectations for students but still enjoy your Homecoming week!

I've had many students sent down to the office during the past several weeks but don't know why they are being sent down.  I would rather not interrupt your class to talk to you about what happened but please send a quick email so I know what was going on in class.  If you can stop down quick that would be helpful as well.  We keep those students in the office unless it is a minor infraction or they needed to cool down before being allowed back into the classroom.  If the infraction needs more severe consequences please let me know right away so I can handle it properly.

A quick update on dress code: so far this year, I have talked to more students than all of last year.  Please keep addressing it with students one on one if they are violating the code and have them fix the issue.  If they refuse, send them to the office and we can explain the violation.  Reminder we are enforcing the mid-rift rule so if they have excessive skin showing please remind them of the expectation for clothing at school.  I know in the past there have been concerns due to excessive punishment for clothing violations in other districts which resulted in lawsuits.  Punishment is not our goal in these conversations but rather education to the student so they understand the expectations.

Happy Homecoming! I'm always glad students haven't started this tradition for the principals and staff yet like my former co-worker...
