Happy Friday! Today is midterm for 3rd quarter. Please make sure all your grades are updated by Monday at 8:00 am so Beth and Amy can run the midterm reports. Thank you to those who have had PASS Plan meetings or extended PASS Plans from 1st semester. For those that have trimester classes, we end the trimester on 2/25. Grades will be due on March 1, so report cards can go home to those that have trimester classes. 

Today, marks the last day of Counselor Appreciation week. I would like to thank Judd and Melissa for all the work they do for our students. They have to wear many different hats and must be able to shift to a different hat at a moments notice. Without their hard work, our school would not be where we are today. Thank you for assisting our students. You are there for the students when they really need someone to talk to, ask for advice, or help plan their future. Thank You!

I would also like to thank Stephanie Buhman for her extra hours of work organizing our vaccination clinic the last 2 days and tonight. She was given a task to create a schedule and coordinate the clinic with IDPH. I know the extra hours she put into doing this and she did an amazing job. 

We are scheduled for an evac drill on 2/11 at 9:20 am. I'll be in contact with Chief Schipper about how we will do this drill. He required us to do one in February, so this could be interesting. Instead of evacuating outside, we may go to the gyms. If this is the case, then I would like rooms Commons, Library, 101-122, and rooms 200 -210 to go to Carey Gym. The rest of the rooms will report to the competition gym. We will still need to take attendance and report missing/extra kids from class. Please keep your students together as a group. Please spread out in the gym and make sure students are wearing their masks. 

Just a couple of reminders,  extra hour meeting on Wednesday 2/17 and the end of the quarter will be March 12.

Assistant Principal's Happenings

I hope everyone had a good week and enjoyed some extra sleep yesterday!  During this next week, I will be taking Opens from Seniors at risk of not graduating.  The list is far longer than I would like this close to the end of the year.  Please talk to your classes, especially if you have seniors, and remind them to finish strong instead of constantly worrying about if they would make it through or not.

I have been having more questions about technology usage.  This year we pushed to get devices in kids' hands as we needed to in an uncertain year.  I think there has been some confusion on what kids should be allowed to do with their devices.  The main concern I have been getting is with video games.  Please do not allow a kid to simply play games while they are supposed to be working on something.  These are school devices and they can be taken away from a student at any time if they are using them inappropriately.  A paper assignment or alternative assignment can be assigned instead if they are continuously having issues with the technology.  We have been fortunate that we haven't had to do this too often but there will be times it is necessary.  Another concern is students bringing their own devices, like Nintendo Switches.  These all fall under the technology/cell phone policy and can be turned into the office if needed.

If you are on my Evaluation Schedule please be thinking of a good time to do the next one.  I would like to have them completed by the end of March.

  Friday Focus  Happy Friday! I hope everyone had a great week.  On Monday, I attended a DCAP workshop. You may be asking what is a DCAP workshop? DCAP is our District Career Academic Plan. Just like the student ICAP, Individual Career Academic Plan, the district must have one also. In the DCAP, we spell out what we are doing to prepare our students for college career readiness and employability skills. The DCAP consists of 7 sections, the main sections deal with course planning, work-based learning, and 5 essential components of ICAP.  The course planning section deals with the students 4 year plan and how the students and parents are advised on progress towards graduation. This is why we have the grade level registration meetings, our 8th grade CTE day, 8th grade parent meeting, etc so we can meet this requirement.  I am sure by this point, you are asking yourself how does this apply to me?   Friday Focus Happy Friday! I hope everyone had a great week. We made it through graduation breakfast, practice, and award night. I was thinking that Wednesday is just as about as busy of a day as the Friday of homecoming for me.  This will be the last Friday Focus for the school year, so I'll try to remember to have everything you need to know to get through the last week of classes. Please remember contracts are due to Central Office on the 23rd. I do have a basket on my desk where you can turn it into me and I'll get it to Central Office.   We will be running the advisory schedule on Monday. On Tuesday, we will use the last day of school schedule. On the last day of classes students will be checking out. Please sign their check out sheets. If they have school property that needs to be returned, please document it on the sheet. During advisory that day, they will turn in their laptops.   Friday Focus Happy Friday!   I hope everyone has had a great week. Today is midterm of the 1st quarter. Please make sure all grades are up to date. Amy will run midterms and we will hand them out during 8th period.   I have had my first PASS plan turned in, congrats to Ms. Hommes to be the first one to get one done. Unfortuately is is for a senior that needs his credits. Next week is homecoming, let the fun begin. Monday night at 7:30 pm is the coronation. Come out to the competition gym to see who will be crowned this year's King and Queen.  On Monday, we will have class meetings so students can sign up for the different competitions. Freshmen will be in the Little Theater, Sophomores in the Library, Juniors in the Commons, and Seniors in the Competition Gym. Teachers with the asterick by their name in the Teacher Handbook are the lead teachers and will need to take charge of these meetings.  Dress up days for Homecoming Week. YOU CAN PARTICIPATE!...
