March 25, 2022
Happy Friday! This is our last Friday in March, the school year will be done before we know it. Fourth quarter midterm is on 4/13. That means all PASS Plans need to be completed by this date. We are also starting to get ready for summer school. Please talk with Judd or Melissa about students that failed first semester or could fail this semester. Some of you may have already done this and don't need to do it again. We are still working out the details to summer school.
I am happy to report that all of our teaching positions have been filled for next year. We have hired Josie Krook to replace Mr. Ewing. Josie is a graduate of Coe College and did her student teaching at Linn Mar High School. This semester, she has been long-term subbing in Marion.
We will be running a different schedule for the Conditions of Learning Survey on April 20. The Conditions of Learning Survey will be given in the student's advisory. All students will take the survey unless we get a form back stating the parents don't want them to take it. This survey is required by the state and is part of our performance profile. It is important to stress to the students to think about their overall experience and not just one encounter. A student can answer 9 questions positively and 1 question negatively, and the system counts it as a negative response. As you can see from the results of this survey, we are below the state average. https://www.iaschoolperformance.gov/ECP/StateDistrictSchool/SchoolDetails?DetailType=ConditionsForLearning&k=12569&y=2021

Assistant Principal's Happenings
We are only 14 school days until Easter/Spring Break. I know this time of the year starts to get long and I am seeing it wear on some students and staff. Please remember to rest and recharge over the weekend to push through these next couple of full weeks! After that break, the year always seems to fly by as we get busy with end-of-the-year stuff.
The NHS Induction Ceremony was last night. Juniors who were added now have Opens. Most of these are in great shape academically but if you start to notice any slip please let me know and I will have them return to study hall.
We have had several students that have had some pretty serious conflicts in school recently. I have emailed their teachers so you should be aware of any concerns about specific students if you have them. Please keep me updated if any arguments between students are happening in class so I can help address them and help work out the issue so it doesn't get to the point where more serious consequences are necessary.
If you are completing your tardy detentions I do not need an email about completion- that would be way too many to keep track of. I will take care of the 7+ tardies and will hopefully be pulling those kids in today so they can complete the time by Easter Break.
