March 11, 2022
Happy Friday, I hope everyone has had a great week. It feels like the weeks are going by faster and faster. Thank your for your attention Wednesday during the ISASP security training video. I know that was very dry and hard to stay focus on for the 30 minutes. It just goes and shows you how important it is for us to break up our lessons. Think of how your students would have done sitting through that video.
During Advisory on March 21, I want grades 9-11 to do the practice writing test. I don't care if they get it done, but I want them to see what the test will look like. The practice test can be found here: https://iowa.pearsonaccess.com/test-prep/. The English, Math, and Sophomore Biology teachers will handle the practice reading, math, and science tests.
On the 16th we will take the Star screener tests one last time prior to the ISASP. Please remind your students to do their best and to not rush through it. We can see how long it takes them to finish. If we believe they rushed through it, we may have them take it again.
We also have our 2nd extra hour meeting for the month on Wednesday. The teacher that presented on March 2 should present their data and summary of the lesson for further discussion. Thank you for your work and preparation for this work.
On Monday, I do need to have all the Sophomore report to the Little Theater during advisory. The Le Mars Chamber is wanting to get the Youth on Main Street program running again and they will be presenting this to the Sophomores.
The end of quarter 3 is on March 14. Reminder grades will be due on the 15th so we can run report cards and eligibility reports. Report cards will be mailed out on the 16th. If you give an incomplete, please put a comment down and what needs to be done and when it needs to be done. Please use the Q3 comments for this.
Don't forget to set your clock ahead an hour Saturday night. Have a great weekend!
Assistant Principal's Happenings
I will send out ineligibility notifications to all students who are not passing at least 4 classes next week. As many students are involved in Spring Athletics and Activities please make sure you remind students of the expectation on Monday so there are no surprises for students.
This week I was able to wrap up a lot of loose ends on discipline and have some productive meetings with students and staff to help make things better in the classroom. With the final quarter starting, that is a great time to go over expectations for the end of the year. Remind students, if they don't want to take finals to make sure they need to keep grades C- or above and not miss school for appointments without doctor notes, personal, unexcused tardy, or any truants if they do not want to take the Finals.
I will be sending out the tardy list for the second semester this next week. I will break it down by class period and teacher so it is easy to follow. I did this after the first semester to make sure I was able to talk to each student. Reminder, if they are at 5 and 6, they should serve a1-hour detention with you before or after school. If they refuse, let me know and I will take care of it and add additional time if necessary. At number 7, I will give them a two-hour detention to serve with the office. I will also send a list of students that will need to take Finals, so you can start talking to students about it once the grade reports are out.
Big celebration in our house this week. I am really looking forward to not cleaning out bottles every night!
