Happy Friday! I hope everyone has had a great week. The warmer temperatures have been nice. As the weather warms, some students will start to think summer is here already. Please keep the students working in the classrooms and focused on their classwork.
I will not be in today, in fact, as you are reading this Tanner is warming up for the Midwestern Championship swim meet. He may even already have his first event done this morning. This meet does wrap up Tanner's short course season.
All of the teachers should have received their contract for next school year. Everyone else will receive it after the meet and confer sessions have concluded. I do have a basket on my desk that you can put your contract in and I'll get them to central office.
We have hired a new special education teacher, Tami Fisher will be joining the high school staff. Tami spent this school year with the AEA and the previous 20 years at the middle school. Tami will be a great addition to the high school staff. This leaves the choir position as the only open position at the high school.
Next Tuesday night, we host our CTE Spring Advisory meeting. The CTE teachers along with their advisory committee members will approve our Comprehensive Local Needs Assessment. The CLNA is needed by all districts in order to receive Perkins funds.
Next Thursday night new NHS members will be inducted into our chapter. This takes place at 6:30 pm in the middle school auditorium.
We are looking at doing the annual Conditions of Learning survey on April 20. This survey is required by the state and is part of our performance profile. It is important to stress to the students to think about their overall experience and not just one encounter. A student can answer 9 questions positively and 1 question negatively, and the system counts it as a negative response. As you can see from the results of this survey, we are below the state average. https://www.iaschoolperformance.gov/ECP/StateDistrictSchool/SchoolDetails?DetailType=ConditionsForLearning&k=12569&y=2021
ISASP are on April 27-29. April 27 will be the writing test and the other tests will be taken on the 28 & 29. If you missed in-service last week, please come and see me on Monday so you can get the proper training in for test security.
Have a great weekend!
Assistant Principal's Happenings
I will be sharing information about Opens to Juniors today. I will send each advisory with Juniors the information as well with instructions. Please go over this with your advisories on Monday after you do the ISASP practice test and find out any questions students may have for me. The most common question is usually about what counts as service and I can answer those.
We had 14 students that are ineligible due to not passing at least 4 classes. This is the most at a quarter since I have been here. I have met with all of these students and will be meeting with any Seniors that in danger of not passing. We had approximately 1 in 6 students failing at least one class at the quarter too. Please make sure you are communicating with parents and discussing with each student to develop plans to make sure they can be successful in the final quarter.
I shared the Tardy form with all teacher who had one or more students with over 5 tardies. Please remind them to serve the time with you and I will give them additional time when they reach 7. I will try to meet with most of them today. I haven't created the Finals document yet but will try to get that out early next week. It will look similar to the tardy document and I will sort the students by the teacher each class period so it should be easy to follow.
