March 4, 2022
Happy Friday, I hope everyone has had a great week. As we enter the month of March, this is my reminder to take care of yourself. The period between President's Day and spring break can become a long stretch and our patience will start to thin. Before dealing with a negative behavior, take a deep breath and pause. Remember the students are not plotting on how to make our lives difficult. We are dealing with kids whose brains are not fully developed and don't think about what they are doing.
We are getting closer to getting a master schedule for next year. Monday - Thursday, Judd and Melissa will be attending a training on how to build a master schedule. From that training, we should get a good jump on getting it done, but I am sure we will need more time to finish it up. I do have all the number meetings complete now. If something changes from when I met with you, I'll come and talk with you about the change.
On Wednesday next week, we do have our building professional development. I do need everyone to report to the library at 2:00 pm for our annual ISASP training. Melissa is working on a way to get the video to the test security part so you don't have to watch the topics that don't pertain to you. Once this is done, you are able to start working on your curriculum.
We did hire a new social studies teacher. Kyle Borchers will be coming back home to take over for Mr. Fitzgerald. Kyle will also serve as the head boys cross country coach. Kyle is currently teaching at HMS and is the cross country, track, and ms baseball coach. Kyle graduated from LCHS in 2011. We are interviewing candidates for the SPED position and choir position. The choir position deadline has been pushed back to March 14, so if you know any great high school choir teachers encourage them to apply.
Don't forget about requisitions. If you are not going to request anything now, but anticipating needing to get items locally, I need to know a dollar amount so I can budget for it. Please email how much you think you may need for local purchases so I can take that into consideration when developing the budget.
The end of quarter 3 is on March 14. Reminder grades will be due on the 15th so we can run report cards and eligibility reports. Report cards will be mailed out on the 16th. If you give an incomplete, please put a comment down and what needs to be done and when it needs to be done. Please use the Q3 comments for this.
I will be leaving today at 1:00. Tanner swims in Council Bluffs this afternoon so we need to get down there for warmups.
Have a great weekend!
Assistant Principal's Happenings
It has been a busy week with meetings and only being home for one full night this week! Hopefully, we have several major concerns resolved from many of these that have been issues for some time. I know I have received multiple concerns about certain students and some of you have requested removing a kid from class. We do have a process we have to follow, especially when it comes to a student's education which is why we cannot make a quick decision. If it is a behavior issue, we need to have referrals and ramp up consequences before we would ever get to that point. If a student is on an IEP and has a behavior goal, we need to determine why a student is behaving in a certain way and make sure we are following the accommodations to less those behaviors.
We had another week of many truants. With the Trimester change, several of those are due to that but too many are still students who should be counted tardy. Please update these when they come to class and make sure you are taking attendance every period. We also had five Seniors who never figured out the schedule change, even after 4 years of high school... They should all be in class moving forward.
I hope everyone has been able to support the fine arts which have had three concerts this past week. If you have students in a class who have been performing, please give them some recognition for their hard work to make these performances great!
