Happy Friday! I hope everyone had a great week. As we get into second quarter, remember PASS Plans should be completed by Nov. 17. The 17th is mid term of the 2nd quarter. I am getting the PASS Plan spreadsheet updated. So please check that to make sure I have a copy of any plans you may have made.
We do have some seniors who could be hurting credit wise. If you have a senior that is failing a class, please make sure you are making contact with the parents, either arranging a meeting or updating them. Don't necessary rely that they will be checking PowerSchool.
On Tuesday, Mrs. Hill, Mr. Kopperud, and myself attended a workshop titled "Future Ready Iowa". Future Ready Iowa is the state's push for PK-12 programs to make sure all Iowa students are ready for life after high school. We looked at some of our post-secondary data. The state tracks students for 6 years after they graduate high school. They look at how many students we say are going to attend post-secondary schooling and then see how many actually go. Then each year they track how many stay with it, how many complete, and how many drop out. Our "Class of 2014" is the only one that has the full 6 years of data. I expect to see the "Class of 2015" soon. 75% of the Class of 2014 enrolled in some type of post-secondary training. 6 years after high school, 19% of the class not enrolled or no award was found, 27% No longer Enrolled, and 51% received some type of award (diploma, certification, etc.). Another interesting note, 3.8% of the graduating class of 2014 had to take a remedial course in English or Math. NWAEA average is 8.5 and the state's average is 14.6%
Future Ready Iowa is focused on the student's Life, Career, and Academic. Schools have done a good job focusing on the Academic part of this diagram. In Careers, we have done a good job of doing interest surveys and other ways to identify what our students may be interested in, but we haven't really given aptitude surveys. Their data shows that when a student chooses a career they have a good aptitude in and have an interest, they felt like they had a purpose.
Future Ready Iowa is something we will hear more about as the state tries to help fill the void as the baby boomers retire and create openings that need to be filled. We see the need in our field, fewer and fewer people are going into education. It use to be when we had openings, it would not be uncommon to get 20 applications for a secondary job. Now we are lucky to get 5 applications. Our industry is not the only suffering trying to find workers.
Our Fall Play will be happening in a couple of weeks. The play will take place on November 11, 12, and 13. Tickets will be able to be purchased in the office.
Next week, we have a extra hour meeting on 11/3 and a shelter drill on 11/4 @ 9:05 am. Don't forget to get me course proposals for the 22-23 school year by 11/23.
Enjoy your weekend!

Assistant Principal's Happenings
I hope everyone was able to check out some of the Fine Arts performances this week! They have been doing a great job and a year without masks has been nice to see students perform in a proper setting. We still have a couple events left with Friday night the Indoor Marching Band Concert and the Fall Play coming up in a few weeks.
There were almost 100 students counted truant in the past 5 days but only a 1/3 of these were actually truant and most were the same couple students each day. We have plans in place for these students. Please make sure you are fixing the attendance, while it may not seem like a big deal if I do not get these corrected this does count against our School Performance Profile.
We had only 7 students that will be added to the ineligible list for not passing at least 4 classes at the end of quarter 1. I was concerned that this number would be higher due to some concerns with returning remote learners. I am very happy with this number and would also say out of these 7, 4 are not in dire straights yet. Please keep encouraging and working with all students to help them be successful.
