Happy Friday! It is hard to believe we are already starting the month of October. This year seems to be moving faster, maybe it is because I have a senior this year. Thank you for your patience last week during homecoming. It is nice to have that behind us now and we can get back to what we need to do.

Congrats to Mrs. Bowen for being named the September Employee of the Month. This was a very deserving recognition. Thank you Mrs. Bowen for your dedication and hard work for the students of Le Mars.

Wednesday, I sent out a letter to all of our parents regarding the TikTok challenge "devious licks". I asked the parents to talk to their students about this and spelled out potential consequences if students are caught. I have heard rumors, from other schools, that whoever started the "devious licks" challenge has a different challenge for each month. Reportedly for October it is slapping a staff member on the backside. I am hoping that this is not true and we won't experience this. But we have talked with Officer Vickery and we do have a plan of action should this happen. Dr. Webner has said we will not tolerate these challenges and students will face consequences.

We do have our next extra hour meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 6. CIA will get an agenda out to you prior to that day. That you for your continued work towards making our school better.

I want to take a moment to reinforce the why of our professional development. If you look at the history of our test scores, we have always been solid, ranking near the top in NW Iowa. But when you dig into our data, you see pockets where some of our students are not at the same level and are quite a bit behind their peers. When you look at the four PLC questions, What do we want the students to know and be able to do? How do we know they learned it? How will we respond when some students do not learn? How will we extend the learning for students that are already proficient?, (this probably isn't the correct way to list these, but I am taking the writer's liberty of self expression) we are really getting down to what strategies am I using to teach the skill/content and is it the most effective. Each and every one of you bring your experience or what you have learned to the table. As a collective unit, we will be stronger than if we did this as an individual. This collaboration is what is vital to the success of what we are doing here. Sharing data and teaching strategies should not be scary and definitely is not used for evaluations. The purpose is to make us all better and become the best version of ourselves.

The LCS Foundation is taking nominations for Employee of the Month again. Please take the time to nominate one of your peers. Nomination forms can be found here: http://www.lemarscsd.org/?page_id=692, just scroll down to Misc Forms.

Looking ahead, we will be hosting the flu shot clinic on Oct. 5. Please refer to email sent by Mrs. Lias for how to sign up. We also have our second evac drill on Oct. 5. Parent/Teacher conferences will be coming up quickly also. They are on Oct. 7 and 12 from 5 to 8:30.

Enjoy your weekend!

Assistant Principal's Happenings

I have been sitting down with Seniors with F's yesterday and will get to the rest today.  A few will have opens taken until grades improve but most simply need a reminder to turn in an assignment or finish a test so they are in better shape.  Please keep on them and all students that are in that position of potentially failing a class.  I know several Pass Plans have already been completed and many more are being scheduled.  Meeting with parents has typically been the best way to get everyone involved and having that Plan shows the student exactly what they must do to succeed.  One thing, I want to make sure everyone addresses is if a student is on an IEP, please try to identify which accommodations are working and if we may need to have an IEP Meeting to adjust accommodations to better help them succeed.

I updated the Teacher Duty list the other day so everyone has at least 6 spots.  Please make sure you have someone cover for you if you are unable to be there.  I did change the floater position in the morning to be in the Commons only as we have a lot of students in there to monitor.  We have had more concerns in the hallways lately and need to make sure teachers are around to stop any potential issues they see.  We do need you in the halls between each class as often as possible to help avoid these issues.  I have a couple of students I will email individual teachers about so we can have them avoid each other in the hallways or restrooms.

We had our BAM Meeting with Dr. Webner and Mrs. Leavitt yesterday.  Part of that meeting is going over the discipline referrals for the past month.  We gave out almost double the discipline referrals out compared to this point last year.  Cell Phone violations have almost matched last year's total.  I do think this is making a difference in the classrooms and students are also much less likely to argue over the violation since we stopped keeping them overnight.  Please continue to remind students of your expectations in the classrooms for behavior and technology.

Have a great weekend!

I do not endorse this idea but its not bad:
