Happy Friday! On Tuesday, I was discussing what was left for us to get done this year with Mrs. Hill, it hit me how close we are to the end of the year. I do believe this is one year all of us will be glad to close out. But as I look forward to the end of year, I reflect back on what we have accomplished. We are probably one of the few schools in Iowa that can say we had live instruction every day we had school. This is in large part due to your efforts to help enforce our social distance, mask rules, and just making sure that our students and ourselves are being safe. For a time there during first semester, it seemed like this time of year would never come. We have also pushed our students and provided a somewhat sense of normal. Minus a few of our mitigation efforts, we were able to educate the youth of Le Mars. 

Just a couple of reminders, you can put your signed contracts on the basket on my desk and I'll send them over to Central Office. They are due on May 4. Senior semester tests are on May 17 and 18th. Semester test for everyone else is on May 26 and 27. We will run our Semester 1 test schedule since their is not an early out on May 27. 

Close out the year strong, and keep your expectations on the students. The one nice thing about the cooler weather is that it keeps the students focused a little better.


Conditions For Learning Survey Info

On Wednesday, we will be giving the annual Conditions for Learning survey to the students. This is a requirement by the state. Please encourage the students to give honest feedback on the survey. We will be running a different schedule that day. We will want to make sure the students are aware that they need to pick up their computers before heading to 1st period. They will be considered late at 8:25. The students do not have this schedule, so please post it so they know what is happening this day.

The writing test will be taken in advisory on Tuesday, May 4. This will be for grades 9-11 only, Seniors will have an open during the writing test. The reading, math, and science exams will be taken in the English, Math, and Biology classes. We will run a block schedule on Thursday, May 6 and Friday, May 7. Even classes will be on Thursday, odd classes will be Friday. All students will have an open lunch on Thursday and Friday. 

For those of you planning for next year, we will be ending Semester 1 on December 21. First quarter dates will be 8/25 - 10/20, 2nd quarter 10/21- 12/21, 3rd quarter 1/4 - 3/14, and 4th quarter 3/15 - 5/25. Trimester 1 will be 8/25 - 11/17, Tri 2 11/18 - 2/28, and Tri 3 3/1 - 5/25.

Assistant Principal's Happenings

I will be sending out a preliminary list of Seniors required to take Semester Tests next week Friday.  We will be changing some of the requirements for semester tests this year.  The first is for this year only- advisory truants will be taken out for students that have gotten four or less for the semester.  Students who had any truants for any classes or 5 or more truants for advisory will still take the finals.  The reason five was chosen is that was when I gave consequences for advisory truants this year.  We will also be changing the absence due to illness requirement for semester tests.  We made some changes early on but we do not want to encourage students to come to school when they are sick due to illness just because of semester tests, so we will be getting rid of that this year and for the future.  We will be seeking Board approval next month for this as well for future years and will have those changes in the handbook for next year.

Please keep encouraging students to wear their masks in class.  We know many schools in the area have been changing the requirement in the area but we will not be for this year.  I wrote up twice the number of mask violations this past month compared to previous months mostly from students who had not had concerns before with the masks.  We know everyone is getting weary of the masks but we want to make sure we finish the year strong and do not want students missing the last month of school.

  Friday Focus  Happy Friday! I hope everyone had a great week.  On Monday, I attended a DCAP workshop. You may be asking what is a DCAP workshop? DCAP is our District Career Academic Plan. Just like the student ICAP, Individual Career Academic Plan, the district must have one also. In the DCAP, we spell out what we are doing to prepare our students for college career readiness and employability skills. The DCAP consists of 7 sections, the main sections deal with course planning, work-based learning, and 5 essential components of ICAP.  The course planning section deals with the students 4 year plan and how the students and parents are advised on progress towards graduation. This is why we have the grade level registration meetings, our 8th grade CTE day, 8th grade parent meeting, etc so we can meet this requirement.  I am sure by this point, you are asking yourself how does this apply to me?   Friday Focus Happy Friday! I hope everyone had a great week. We made it through graduation breakfast, practice, and award night. I was thinking that Wednesday is just as about as busy of a day as the Friday of homecoming for me.  This will be the last Friday Focus for the school year, so I'll try to remember to have everything you need to know to get through the last week of classes. Please remember contracts are due to Central Office on the 23rd. I do have a basket on my desk where you can turn it into me and I'll get it to Central Office.   We will be running the advisory schedule on Monday. On Tuesday, we will use the last day of school schedule. On the last day of classes students will be checking out. Please sign their check out sheets.   Friday Focus Happy Friday!   I hope everyone has had a great week. Today is midterm of the 1st quarter. Please make sure all grades are up to date. Amy will run midterms and we will hand them out during 8th period.   I have had my first PASS plan turned in, congrats to Ms. Hommes to be the first one to get one done. Unfortuately is is for a senior that needs his credits. Next week is homecoming, let the fun begin. Monday night at 7:30 pm is the coronation. Come out to the competition gym to see who will be crowned this year's King and Queen.  On Monday, we will have class meetings so students can sign up for the different competitions. Freshmen will be in the Little Theater, Sophomores in the Library, Juniors in the Commons, and Seniors in the Competition Gym.
