Happy Friday! I hope everyone had a great first full week of school. I know I am a little more tired than I have been in a while. I need to build up that endurance again.  I want to thank everyone for hitting our new policies hard with the students. If we continue to do this, the rest of the year will be much easier. I am taking cell phones and earbuds from students when I see them with them in the hallway during class time. My guess is the students didn't believe we would do this.  I think the start of the year has gone very smoothly, this in large part due to all of you. Again, thank you for all you do for our students. We do have a small group of Freshmen boys that are taking a little longer to figure it out, but they will get there. Great job with the evac drill yesterday, I do think it was our smoothest first drills of the year.  With the start of September, we do have 2 building in-service days this month. CIA will send agendas out to the staff the week we ha...

Happy Friday! This will be my last Friday Focus of the school year. I hope you all have had a great week. We made it through graduation practice and the awards night. I am trying to decide which day is busier, the homecoming Friday or this past Wednesday. Although I was rather impressed with the seniors this year, they actually listened and did a good job.  I met with Judd and Melissa this week to discuss summer school. Right now, we show quite a few students that are failing one or more classes. If the student ends up failing your class, please look at the percentage and if they are close please consider credit recovery as an option. If credit recovery is not an option, then the student will take the class on Edmentum.  Just a reminder on our expectations for semester tests. Students will need to remain in the classroom the entire testing time. They can not leave early to go to another room or to leave the building. ...

Happy Friday! I hope everyone has had a great week. Don't forget about lunch in the lounge today. Adam and I would like to thank you all for everything you do for our students.  Today is the last day for our Seniors. If they are not taking your semester test, please sign their checkout sheets today. Seniors will need to turn in the Chromebook to the library. Cody and/or Tracy will be in there to collect the computers. Seniors will take their semester tests on Monday and Tuesday. They need to have all the tests done by the end of 4th on Tuesday. Senior final grades are due at 8:00 am on Wednesday, May 15. I have been asked about the semester tests for other the other grades. Students will need to remain in the classroom the entire testing time. They can not leave early to go to another room or to leave the building. A student may move a test if it benefits you, otherwise they need to take it when they are scheduled. Remember, the...

Happy Friday! I hope everyone has had a great week. Next week is Teacher Appreciation Week, on Friday Mr. Moss and myself will be providing lunch. A huge thank you to the entire staff for all you do for our students.  Last week, I attended an AI workshop in Des Moines and found it really cool on what you can do. In the morning we were able to play with different AI tools and in the afternoon we discussed ethical uses and creating guidelines. This student guideline poster is good starting point for discussions on how we can teach students the appropriate use of AI. One thing that I learned is that AI checkers will be obsolete within 3 years. I also learned that programs like Grammerly are AI based and that will set off the AI checkers. Also, any computer program that will offer you word suggestions as you are typing use AI to do this. I know we have some students that use Grammerly, so if you accuse a student of using AI, just kn...

Happy Friday! I hope everyone has had a great week. The seniors are getting closer to graduation. I have several that are failing classes that are needed for graduation. I encouarage you to call home and talk to the parents to let them know what their student needs to get done to pass your class. I am also communicating with parents, but I can't tell them what needs to be done to pass. Seniors final day of class is May 10. They will take semester tests on May 13 and 14. On May 14 all tests need to be done by noon. Senior grades are due at 8:00 am on May 15. This is a hard deadline as Amy will need to run final awards for that night. All seniors will need to have 50 credits at this time or he/she will not be walking at graduation.  On May 7, Dr. Webner will be holding staff information meetings on the facility study and possible buildings. He will hold 2 meetings in the HS/MS complex that day, one from 7:40-8:00 am and another from 3:40...
