Happy Friday! This will be my last Friday Focus of the school year. I hope you all have had a great week. We made it through graduation practice and the awards night. I am trying to decide which day is busier, the homecoming Friday or this past Wednesday. Although I was rather impressed with the seniors this year, they actually listened and did a good job.

I met with Judd and Melissa this week to discuss summer school. Right now, we show quite a few students that are failing one or more classes. If the student ends up failing your class, please look at the percentage and if they are close please consider credit recovery as an option. If credit recovery is not an option, then the student will take the class on Edmentum.

Just a reminder on our expectations for semester tests. Students will need to remain in the classroom the entire testing time. They can not leave early to go to another room or to leave the building. A student may move a test if it benefits you, otherwise they need to take it when they are scheduled. Remember, they can't leave another class early to come to your room to take a test. We don't want them to hurry through a test to get to another one.

Final grades will be due before you check out on the 30th. I will also need all PASS Plan summaries. If a student fails and doesn't have a PASS Plan, you will need to give them an incomplete and contact the family to let them know what needs to be done to remove the incomplete. You will also need to turn in an incomplete form to me so I can keep track of those. An incomplete will not make a student academically ineligible unless it turns into a "F". Mr. Moss will run the eligibility report on the 30th and notify the baseball and softball coaches of any current athletes that become ineligible. The state did change the rule to 20 calendar days instead of 30 days. Our local eligibility rule will also change for next school year. If a student doesn't pass four full time classes they will be ineligible until midterm of the 2nd or 4th quarter.  At that time, if they meet the eligibility rule, they will become eligible for school activities. If they don't they remain ineligible.

Assistant Principal's Happenings

Announcements:

1) The link to the Freshman - Junior Semester Test lists.  I will run a final update to the list either today or this weekend.  Thanks for all your help communicating this to your students.  Remember that this list is for attendance, truants, and tardies only -- teachers must run grade checks to determine if a student needs to take the test due to grades.  Please communicate to students their status soon -- don't wait until Thursday to let them know they have to take the test.

2) I've been reviewing some of our "thoughts of the week".  Some favorites for me have been the following:

A) You've been sharing your small wins with me.  Every once in a while you will approach me and say, "I had a win today!"  That's awesome -- thanks for your encouragement.

B) We've looked at some ideas from Boys Town -- I'm pleased to share that we will all partake in that training next August when you return to school.

C)  Some of you volunteered to be part of the SSFC, and have done a lot of behind the scenes work to help bring some fun to the work week -- you know who you are!  Thank you!

D)  We've discussed the importance of "hope" for both adults and kids.

E)  We've talked about theories of classroom and behavior management.

3)  Several of you have stopped by and discussed how "squirrel-ly" the kids are getting in class.  If you need help brainstorming different activities or methods to help channel some of this energy for the last few days, I would be happy to brainstorm with you.  I think our instructional coaches would love to talk, too.

4) Your challenge for the week:  find your "toughest" kids and try to connect on something they are looking forward to this summer!

Keep being awesome--

Adam
