Happy Friday! I hope everyone has had a great start to the school year. Overall, I have been pleased with how the year has started. I have only had one angry call about the masks. I was expecting much more than that. The students have done a good job starting out, but I think we will start to have some that will test the waters soon.  We will continue to be hard on those not wearing masks. If students are in the building after school hours, they still need to have a mask on. If you see someone not wearing, please ask them to put it on and then let Kyle or I know who the student was and one of us will follow up. Thank you for your flexibility and patience these first few days of school. We have made plans, but no plan is perfect. If you see something we could do better, please let us know. Flexibility and change may be a constant this year. We are making copies of the bell schedule so they can be given to the students to keep in their student handbook. We are all getting use ...

Happy Friday! I hope everyone had a productive day back getting into the swing of things. We will be starting with our students on Tuesday, hopefully. We will be running our advisory schedule for Tuesday so you can play the video Mr. Formanek created showing procedures. The video can be found on our website. We will also need you to have your advisory students fill out the student LCSD Internet Acceptable Use, Email Policy, and Student Laptop Agreement form. Before students submit the laptop agreement form, make them show you they have entered the information correctly. The student will then be assigned to that laptop for the school year. Speaking of laptops, the 211 computer lab will cease to exist this school year. This room will become where students can get their laptop fixed if something happens to it. Mark, Bruce, Cody, and the tech interns will man the room. The student will be given a temporary laptop while the other one gets fixed.  It will be important to spend the...

Happy Friday! I hope everyone takes that last big breath before we get this year kicked off. I have included the plan for the 3 teacher in-service days as we start this year. My goal is to give you as much time as possible in your rooms to plan and prepare for this year. I have updated my website for this year, but haven't given access to the files yet because I don't want you thinking that much about our meetings yet. Enjoy the last few days of summer.  I have been asked about seating charts and if you need to put the kids in alphabetical order. You will want to have seating charts of some type and on days that kids are doing a lab or some group activity, you will want to document who the student worked with. This will assist if we need to do contact tracing on the students. Who thought we would ever have to do contact tracing? We are working on finalizing the list of students who will do remote learning to start the year off with. These students will be on Edmentum taking cou...

Happy Friday! I bet many of you are thinking this is way too early to be getting one of these, I still have 13 more days until I need to be back. I wanted to take a moment to thank you for all your work in getting ready for this school year. This year is going to start differently than any other year any of us has ever experienced.  With all the changes and different schedules and the knowing we will have students and staff that may test positive for COVID 19, I don't have the same expectations and you should also not pressure yourself into thinking we need to get to the same point as I have in the past. Our students are coming back to us not from a normal summer break, but the extended summer break they have been on since March 13. We know there will be gaps in what they know. We know not many students did the voluntary lessons from March to May. We know that students coming from low income families don't have the resources or maybe the time to help their children with school ...

Happy Friday! Next week marks the end of the 19-20 school year. Thank you for all you have done this year and especially during this difficult time dealing with the pandemic. On Monday and Tuesday, we will have the students entering the school to clean out lockers and to turn in their books. Those of you working the doors will highlight students as they enter.  This will help us keep track of who does not show up.  The outside doors will remain locked and you will need to open the door to let the next group in.  At the doors, we will have tables positioned for students to put classroom books and computers on, there will be boxes for free reading books that belong to our English teachers, and boxes for music for Band, Choir, or Orchestra. We will also have hanging racks for tuxes or dress from the music department. Those that are working the senior door will need to check to make sure they filled out their post-secondary plan sheet. If they have not, we will have blank...

Happy Teacher Appreciation Week! Since I missed out on making lunch for all of you, I'll make sure I do that this fall when we start the school year. Thank you for all you have done this year and during this time when things have been anything but a normal end of the school year. I have had a chance to meet with every department but CTE and the Music staff. I'll meet with them today. It sounds like we are having fewer students accessing the enrichments. Just a reminder that we need to keep providing the enrichments so we can count these as school days under the voluntary enrichment plan.  In the next few weeks Kyle and I will be brainstorming many "what if's" for how next year could start or how it could look. I am kind of superstitious, so if I have plans for scenarios, we won't need them and we will have a normal start.  I am going to cancel our department meetings for the week of May 18 and schedule a large all staff meeting for May 22. I thi...

Happy Friday, and Happy May Day, I be at home waiting for all those May Day baskets to be left at my doorstep. Do kids even do that anymore? I remember doing this throughout my childhood.  I really don't have many updates to give this week. Kyle and I went through the student lockers and pulled textbooks and reading books we could identify belonged to the school. We placed these materials in the commons. If you want to stop in and see if any of the materials are yours, please just let me know so we don't have more than 10 at school at a time.  Dr. Webner sent an email regarding PPE and students coming to get their items and turn our stuff in. Since we will be around the students, please wear a mask. Again, the school will not be providing these as our's are being reserved for the medical community.  Please don't forget to sign up for a time to help with students coming in to get their items from lockers and a time to get into your room to get it ready for the su...
