Friday Focus

Happy Friday! I hope everyone had a great week. I will be gone again today, but this is Tanner's last swim meet of the school year. This is the meet he has been training for, so he is pretty pumped and ready to go.

This week I signed our first formal pre-apprenticeship agreement with the Carpenters Training Institute. This agreement recognizes the learning and work our students do in our construction classes and gives them credit for that experience if they join the Carpenters Training Institute in Sioux City. Those students, if they are 18, will get a job with a contractor and then will continue on with the apprenticeship. If they are not 18 yet, they can sign on with the union and still start the classes, but can't get a job until he/she turns 18. After their first year, they are awarded a $1500 scholarship to pay for tools they will need for their job. This is an excellent opportunity for those students interested in a career in construction field. Once the student completes the apprenticeship, the student can also use those credits at WIT towards the construction diploma through an articuluation agreement between CTI and WIT.

Grades were due yesterday and were stored in PowerSchool. If you need to change a student's grade, please email Mr. Moss or myself. We will need the new percentage and letter grade. If you have to update an entire class, please let us know which period and we can update those grades by storing just your class again.

Next Friday we do not have school, so there will be no Friday Focus. I have now scheduled all the number meetings so we can move on to the next phase of creating the schedule. Hopefully, I can have a draft schedule out mid April.

We will be running the ISASP schedule when we come back after the three day weekend. Tuesday and Wednesday will be the Reading and Science tests and Thursday and Friday will be the Writing and Math. I may have changed Math and Science around because Mrs. Dunn will be coaching at the track meet in Yankton on Friday.

Assistant Principal's Happenings

Some important things this week.  I know it is long, but please read in its entirety.

HAPPY PI DAY!

This week: Google Chat, Grade/Attendance Reports, BOEE Ethics (important!), new Powerschool features, March Snackness update and Round 3

Things to Announce:
*We decided to shut down student access to the Google Chat function earlier this week.  We did not feel that there was enough of an educational purpose weighed against the problems we were encountering. I've heard from several students that we are shutting down Google Slides or other things -- that is not true and we have no plans to shutter anything else at this time.

*With the end of the quarter, I will be running reports to restrict opens for students that had lower grades than allowed by the handbook for that privilege.  I will also be be issuing a new round of attendance contracts for students that have earned them.

*IMPORTANT:  We had a discussion at cabinet this week regarding the BOEE ethics standards.  The BOEE recently released this document, outlining things that schools are required to report.  Dr. Webner recently emailed us regarding the use of email for "swap" -- please read through this doc and note a few things that may surprise you:  we can't use public funds/equipment/property for personal use or gain, and also note the rules regarding alcohol -- we can't have a drink off-site and then come back on-site.  We don't want to have a situation that puts you at risk. Here is a link to the entire ethics brochure.  It's a good document to review occasionally.

*Something new!!  LCS has recently joined the Grant Wood AEA PowerSchool consortium.  As a result our tech team has been pushing through updates. Some great IEP updates to make your life easier! You may have noticed that the "triangle" icon that indicates an IEP or other alert is now more prominent.  You can also print a class roster that includes all accommodations needed!  See screenshots below.
