Happy Friday! I hope everyone has a chance to enjoy the upcoming 3 day weekend. We have now completed all of our shelter drills for the school year. As we do draw closer to spring, please make sure students are aware of what to do if we have sever weather. 

We have a number of students that are behind in their school work. Please take the time to call home or email parents. When I ran the F list, we had 206 students with 1 or more failing grades. It always seems this time of year this happens and then the students recover. Please stay on top of those students who have low grades and providing interventions. For those not doing work, ask them what their plan is? We have seen a uptick on the number of underclassmen already behind on credits. We currently have 37 students at the alternative school. 6 of those are seniors, the remaining 31 students are freshmen through juniors.

Now is the time to start hyping up ISASP with the students. The ISASP scores are used as a big part of our score on the Iowa Performance Profile. I know that alone won't motivate students to do there best. ISASP do affect them: juniors who are not proficient do not get opens at the beginning of the school year; any student that is not proficient can not take concurrent courses in the Arts and Sciences (math, English, science, and social studies); and their scores have an impact on what we do for professional develop which translates to what happens to the them in the classroom.

ISASP are scheduled for the week of March 27. We will run the block schedule for 4 days. On March 27 & 28 we will give the reading and math tests and on March 29 & 30 we will give the science and writing tests. This is a change from last week. 

The end of the 2nd trimester is on Feb. 27 and the end of 3rd quarter is on March 15. I have had some PASS plans turned into me and I have been notified of some extensions. Please refer to the PASS Plan spreadsheet if you want to know if I have a record of a meeting or an extension. The last day for any PASS Plans or extensions is April 17.

Assistant Principal's Happenings

I had a lot of great learning from the Iowa School Law Conference.  I am going to be continuing some professional development next over the next couple of weeks with another Conference I will be attending with the AEA.  I will be gone the following days; February 21st, March 7th, and March 28th.  Feel free to email me on those days and I will get to the issues when I return.

We have more students than usual in our hallways, especially Middle School students after school.  Please make sure you are at your Teacher Duty as soon as possible after school so we can avoid issues and move students out of the building.  Hopefully, warmer weather is on the way soon so students start leaving sooner.

I will be sending an email about this to the whole district but if you are interested in learning more about becoming a Driver's Education Teacher, please let me know.  Mr. Wichers is still planning on teaching it this year and possibly in the future but we will certainly need more teachers at some point.  If you have questions or want some information send me an email.

Last Reminder- please remind your classes today to bring money on Tuesday during Advisory to donate for care packages for our Troops!

  Friday Focus  Happy Friday! I hope everyone had a great week.  On Monday, I attended a DCAP workshop. You may be asking what is a DCAP workshop? DCAP is our District Career Academic Plan. Just like the student ICAP, Individual Career Academic Plan, the district must have one also. In the DCAP, we spell out what we are doing to prepare our students for college career readiness and employability skills. The DCAP consists of 7 sections, the main sections deal with course planning, work-based learning, and 5 essential components of ICAP.  The course planning section deals with the students 4 year plan and how the students and parents are advised on progress towards graduation. This is why we have the grade level registration meetings, our 8th grade CTE day, 8th grade parent meeting, etc so we can meet this requirement.  I am sure by this point, you are asking yourself how does this apply to me?   Friday Focus Happy Friday! I hope everyone had a great week. We made it through graduation breakfast, practice, and award night. I was thinking that Wednesday is just as about as busy of a day as the Friday of homecoming for me.  This will be the last Friday Focus for the school year, so I'll try to remember to have everything you need to know to get through the last week of classes. Please remember contracts are due to Central Office on the 23rd. I do have a basket on my desk where you can turn it into me and I'll get it to Central Office.   We will be running the advisory schedule on Monday. On Tuesday, we will use the last day of school schedule. On the last day of classes students will be checking out. Please sign their check out sheets. If they have school property that needs to be returned, please document it on the sheet. During advisory that day, they will turn in their laptops.   Friday Focus Happy Friday!   I hope everyone has had a great week. Today is midterm of the 1st quarter. Please make sure all grades are up to date. Amy will run midterms and we will hand them out during 8th period.   I have had my first PASS plan turned in, congrats to Ms. Hommes to be the first one to get one done. Unfortuately is is for a senior that needs his credits. Next week is homecoming, let the fun begin. Monday night at 7:30 pm is the coronation. Come out to the competition gym to see who will be crowned this year's King and Queen.  On Monday, we will have class meetings so students can sign up for the different competitions. Freshmen will be in the Little Theater, Sophomores in the Library, Juniors in the Commons, and Seniors in the Competition Gym.
