Happy Friday! I hope everyone has had a great week. We have one night of conferences down and one more to go on Monday night.

I have several seniors that are failing classes that they do need for graduation. If you have a senior failing, please make sure you are keeping parents updated. I do meet with these seniors and send letters home. However, I can't tell them what they need to get done to pass your class or what their effort has been. 

I have been starting to get some PASS plans, but I should have many more. All PASS plans for the first semester need to be done by 11/16. Please make sure I receive a copy of the plan so I can enter it on my spreadsheet. If I don't get a copy, I won't know or think one has been done. PASS plans are a requirement before any student receives a failing grade. 

We are also starting to get ready for registering for the 23-24 school year. Please get Mr. Kopperud any updates to your course descriptions. If you want to propose a new course, please get me those proposals by November 1. New courses approval is based on our ability to offer the required offer and teach classes to meet our accreditation and course demand. Our enrollment will be going up again next year as we are set to graduate 140 and will be brining in roughly 194 freshmen (Class of 2027). This would put our enrollment up to 746. We will have some larger classes sizes just based on this alone. The Class of 28 currently is sitting at 151, while the Class of 24 is at 161. 

Have a great weekend! I'll be visiting Tyler at the college in Brookings cheering on the Coyotes from THE University of South Dakota. Don't worry about the Oklahoma game, obviously everyone watching them isn't helping.

Assistant Principal's Happenings

Less than 10 days left in the 1st Quarter!  Thank you for all the work you have been doing this year so far.  Please keep pushing students to improve their grades before the end of the Quarter as it is 45% of their first semester.  I will be updating tardies after next week and sending out the reminder sheet at the quarter.  Reminder for the tardy policy: 5 and 6 tardies in a class= 30-minute detention each with the teacher.   Please be contacting home as well so they are aware of the issue.  After a student gets 7 tardies, I will give them a 2-hour detention with the office and we are planning on having them serve it during the November and December early-out's.  

Reminder for Technology- it is a privilege, not a right.  There have been times already and will be more times when a student is banned from technology at school for various reasons.  If that happens, you must find an alternative method to complete assignments in the class.  It may look very different than what everyone else is doing but should have the same rigor and meet the same essential learnings.  I know this is extra work but something that will likely need to happen at some point when students make poor choices with their Chromebooks.

I know it's early but The Legion is asking for names to be given for interviews for Boy's State.  I will send out a survey next week to give them a list of students nominated by their teachers.  The Legion ultimately determines who is picked but requests that we help narrow their search.  

We had a great Homecoming Week last week!  I heard a lot of positive feedback and hope everyone enjoyed the week.  Probably my favorite photo of the week was me looking jealous of Mr. Fehringer's many hairstyles last week!

  Friday Focus  Happy Friday! I hope everyone had a great week.  On Monday, I attended a DCAP workshop. You may be asking what is a DCAP workshop? DCAP is our District Career Academic Plan. Just like the student ICAP, Individual Career Academic Plan, the district must have one also. In the DCAP, we spell out what we are doing to prepare our students for college career readiness and employability skills. The DCAP consists of 7 sections, the main sections deal with course planning, work-based learning, and 5 essential components of ICAP.  The course planning section deals with the students 4 year plan and how the students and parents are advised on progress towards graduation. This is why we have the grade level registration meetings, our 8th grade CTE day, 8th grade parent meeting, etc so we can meet this requirement.  I am sure by this point, you are asking yourself how does this apply to me?   Friday Focus Happy Friday! I hope everyone had a great week. We made it through graduation breakfast, practice, and award night. I was thinking that Wednesday is just as about as busy of a day as the Friday of homecoming for me.  This will be the last Friday Focus for the school year, so I'll try to remember to have everything you need to know to get through the last week of classes. Please remember contracts are due to Central Office on the 23rd. I do have a basket on my desk where you can turn it into me and I'll get it to Central Office.   We will be running the advisory schedule on Monday. On Tuesday, we will use the last day of school schedule. On the last day of classes students will be checking out. Please sign their check out sheets. If they have school property that needs to be returned, please document it on the sheet. During advisory that day, they will turn in their laptops.   Friday Focus Happy Friday!   I hope everyone has had a great week. Today is midterm of the 1st quarter. Please make sure all grades are up to date. Amy will run midterms and we will hand them out during 8th period.   I have had my first PASS plan turned in, congrats to Ms. Hommes to be the first one to get one done. Unfortuately is is for a senior that needs his credits. Next week is homecoming, let the fun begin. Monday night at 7:30 pm is the coronation. Come out to the competition gym to see who will be crowned this year's King and Queen.  On Monday, we will have class meetings so students can sign up for the different competitions. Freshmen will be in the Little Theater, Sophomores in the Library, Juniors in the Commons, and Seniors in the Competition Gym. Teachers with the asterick by their name in the Teacher Handbook are the lead teachers and will need to take charge of these meetings.  Dress up days for Homecoming Week. YOU CAN PARTICIPATE!...
