December 4, 2020

Happy Friday! As we are officially in December, we only have 2 Fridays of school in 2020. As we close out this first semester we will administer semester tests on the 18th and 21st. The odd periods will be on Friday, while the even periods will be on Monday. Grades will be due before you leave on the 22nd. That is an early out day.

On Tuesday, Kyle and I met with the MTSS committee and we discussed interventions. The MTSS committee consists of Tracey Sadoski, Ashley Ludwig, Jill Bomgaars, and Tami Dunn. I am asking that we still run interventions inside of our normal class. I know this year has been difficult with the number of students missing for Covid and then they don't do any work when they are gone. If you need to, you may have to let the students that are current or understand the material a study hall day while you work with those who are behind. I am not asking you to create more enrichments or give the students additional work, hopefully this does not add more stress to your plate before we finish the semester. Please let me know if I need to talk to any students. I have been running grade reports and so far I have talked to Freshmen and Sophomores that are failing one or more classes. I will hopefully finish out the Juniors and Seniors today. We have assigned some to the success center. She is starting to get tight on space in there, so we may have to move some of the students caught up to study hall.

Some good news on the Covid front, the IDPH is anticipating getting the vaccine sometime in December. Educators are in the second wave of those eligible to get the shot. They are hoping that will be in February/March, but timelines can change depending supply and demand. Also, the quarantine timeframe has changed from 14 days to 10 days or 7 days with a negative test. The person will still need to monitor themselves days 11-14 or 8-14 because they could still potentially develop symptoms. Stephanie did let our families in quarantine know this and let them know the new days they could come back to school.

Next week we have a shelter drill on Thursday, 12/10 at 2:00 pm.

Have a Great Weekend!

Assistant Principal's Happenings

Student Voice Group met the week before Thanksgiving Break.  The big topics discussed were bullying and harassment and what teachers or administrators may be missing.  The take-aways I had from the meeting included; students felt teachers and administrators were inconsistent with discipline, certain kids would get in trouble more than others, and favorites were given special privileges by some teachers.  Not all of them agreed that that was true and they did state they didn't always know how discipline is handled but please consider how you give consequences or handle certain discipline situations.  They also stated that most or all of the bullying happens away from educators so it would be very difficult to know it is occurring.  All but three of the students stated they had a trusted teacher or adult in the building that they knew they could go to for help if something happened.   Please consider which students you know may need some extra guidance or support.  If you are able to, please work on those relationships so every student can have someone they know they can turn to if something happens to them. The next topics we are going to be looking into are Diversity and Social Media.

Please make sure you are in the hallways between classes if you are able.  Be consistent with telling each student to keep masks up as we want to keep our Covid numbers low and that is the simplest way possible.  We are nearing the end of semester one and students tend to start pushing some limits during those times.  Remind students of the expectations when they do.

Ideas from the library/video class/student council

Student council will be hosting a take-n-go breakfast the Thursday before semester tests. Anticipate donuts, muffins, cinnamon rolls and fruit for sure! We will keep you updated!

Need a gift idea for girls? Student Council is still selling Puravide bracelets (red, black & white) for $6. There are two styles. They are available in the office. All proceeds help fund supplies for the personal care items put in the restroom.s
