Happy Friday! I hope everyone had a great week. It is that time of year again to think about summer maintenance. Let me know if you need anything fixed in your classroom. If it isn't a major job, please let Mike know about it now so they can get an early jump on the small jobs. Please let me know by Feb. 28.

 On Wednesday, students in grades 9-11 will take the Reading and Math screener for a second time. Please tell your students to report to the same place they took the screener the first time. Senior's will be allowed to leave at that time and senior advisory teachers please check on the teachers around you to see if they need a break. You can find the schedule here if you need it. 

Congrats to the Boy and Girl Bowling teams as they qualified for the state bowling meet, to the Robotics team who also qualified for the state tournament, Colton Hoag, Brenick Hoppe, Jake Francksen-Small, Justin Otto, and Dylan Carlson for qualifying for the state wrestling meet.  and the Jazz Band for qualifying for the Iowa Jazz Championships. Good luck to the Large Group Speech students who will be performing at the All-State Festival Saturday in Ames and to our wrestlers at state. 

 During advisory on Monday, I will need to meet with students who were involved in the challenge program in middle school. We are looking at revising the TAG program at the high school. 

Looking ahead, we have an extra hour meetings on Feb. 26. The end of the trimester is on Feb. 25. Trimester grades will be due on Feb. 28. At that time, eligibility reports will be run again and report cards will be sent home for those students in trimester classes.

Assistant Principal's Happenings

I had a couple teachers who counted a few kids truant due to leaving class early this week.  The teachers let me know and I was able to address it the next day during that class period with the student and teacher to make it clear they needed to communicate where they were going.  That was new to me but I think it was effective  If you have a classroom that you can't have eyes on everyone all the time and want some help similar to this please let me know. 

 Thank you for starting pass plans for several struggling students.  Based on the success rate from the first semester, these plans give the student the best opportunity to succeed and show parents we are doing everything we can to help.  Be proactive and look over your rosters and students' grades over the next couple of weeks to get pass plans started on students that you know are in danger.

If all goes well, the video media class will be sending out the latest episode today or Monday. Check your emails for the link! There is still a lot of editing to get done by the boys, (returners are all male), so we will see. In the meantime, please keep me updated if there is something you want them to cover for a commercial, video update, and/or a news story. We are "shooting" for monthly episodes, with supplemental tweets as warranted. 

 Prom planning is also underway. Mrs. Ludwig would like to meet with some of the juniors during advisory this coming Monday to finalize the needed supply list. I'm sure she will send out a list of students she hopes to meet with.

  Friday Focus  Happy Friday! I hope everyone had a great week.  On Monday, I attended a DCAP workshop. You may be asking what is a DCAP workshop? DCAP is our District Career Academic Plan. Just like the student ICAP, Individual Career Academic Plan, the district must have one also. In the DCAP, we spell out what we are doing to prepare our students for college career readiness and employability skills. The DCAP consists of 7 sections, the main sections deal with course planning, work-based learning, and 5 essential components of ICAP.  The course planning section deals with the students 4 year plan and how the students and parents are advised on progress towards graduation. This is why we have the grade level registration meetings, our 8th grade CTE day, 8th grade parent meeting, etc so we can meet this requirement.  I am sure by this point, you are asking yourself how does this apply to me?   Friday Focus Happy Friday! I hope everyone had a great week. We made it through graduation breakfast, practice, and award night. I was thinking that Wednesday is just as about as busy of a day as the Friday of homecoming for me.  This will be the last Friday Focus for the school year, so I'll try to remember to have everything you need to know to get through the last week of classes. Please remember contracts are due to Central Office on the 23rd. I do have a basket on my desk where you can turn it into me and I'll get it to Central Office.   We will be running the advisory schedule on Monday. On Tuesday, we will use the last day of school schedule. On the last day of classes students will be checking out. Please sign their check out sheets. If they have school property that needs to be returned, please document it on the sheet. During advisory that day, they will turn in their laptops.   Friday Focus Happy Friday!   I hope everyone has had a great week. Today is midterm of the 1st quarter. Please make sure all grades are up to date. Amy will run midterms and we will hand them out during 8th period.   I have had my first PASS plan turned in, congrats to Ms. Hommes to be the first one to get one done. Unfortuately is is for a senior that needs his credits. Next week is homecoming, let the fun begin. Monday night at 7:30 pm is the coronation. Come out to the competition gym to see who will be crowned this year's King and Queen.  On Monday, we will have class meetings so students can sign up for the different competitions. Freshmen will be in the Little Theater, Sophomores in the Library, Juniors in the Commons, and Seniors in the Competition Gym. Teachers with the asterick by their name in the Teacher Handbook are the lead teachers and will need to take charge of these meetings.  Dress up days for Homecoming Week. YOU CAN PARTICIPATE!...
