Happy Friday! I hope everyone has has a great week! Today, we will pass out midterms along with copies of the Foundations "Teacher of the Year" flyers. I will ask you to pass these out during your 6th period class as we have a few teams leaving early today. Please check you mailboxes during lunch to get your midterms.
Congrats to members of the Large Group speech teams in the following categories for earning all-state honors: Choral Reading, Group Improv, Group Mime, Solo Mime, and Musical Theater. The Group Mime and Solo Mime will perform at the festival held in Ames on Feb. 22.
Good luck to the bowling teams, wrestling team, and girls basketball as they start first round playoff next week. The boys basketball team will start the following week.
Looking ahead, we have a shelter drill on Feb. 19 @ 2:00 pm. We also have extra hour meetings on Feb. 19 and 26.
Have a great Monday!

Assistant Principal's Happenings
Happy Valentine's Day! We are already at Mid-Term for the 3rd quarter. Things are going quickly this semester and we have several students struggling already. Please make sure you are being proactive and starting pass plans. We had a huge influx of pass plans at the same time last semester and have limited time so keep that in mind. Please remember to do what is best for students and make sure they are well aware early on if they are in danger of failing a class.
I sent out an email reminder about the Teacher Duty List a few weeks ago. I've still seen too many locations not being covered which could put the school in a bad position if something happened to students at one of those spots. Please make sure you check the Google Doc and are at your location on time. If you need someone to cover for you please get that figured out ahead of time. If you have morning duty, please make sure you are sending kids either to a classroom or back to the commons as they do not need to be wondering the halls.

Ideas from the library
We always see some cool ideas, but don't always have the time to create them. Check out the templates at this site: Templates for Teachers. They have created a number of different templates that you can use for your own and adapt as needed. Or, if you have a template that you would like to share, you can add it to their site for others to use.
Success Center Updates
Check out the link for Teaching for Understanding in the "Articles Worth Reading." McTighe and Seif (2014) offer relevant and easy to follow suggestions for improving core instruction in the classroom. I especially like their statement that, "...we can no longer focus education around the acquisition of knowledge - information is too easily accessible with the touch of a screen. Rather, education today must help students go beyond learning facts in order to develop deeper understandings of the world around them and the diverse global society in which they live. Our children need to learn how to find, sort, evaluate, and apply information to new situations. They need to learn how to ask critical questions and solve difficult and messy problems" (p. 15). Lots of great ideas that support the work we have been doing this year.
