October 5, 2018

Happy Friday! You all survived the long parent/teacher conference week! Thank you for all you do to help our students achieve. Many times your hard work goes unnoticed by the parents/students, but it is appreciated by all. This would be good time to think about and nominate one of your peers for employee of the month. Forms can be found here; scroll down and find the form towards the bottom of the page.

Looking ahead, we have our extra-hour meeting on Wednesday. This will be in your departments continuing the work from the last in-service. The district in-service date is on October 19. Our second meeting building time will be on October 26.

If you haven't gotten me your new course proposals yet, please do so by November 1. We are already planning our registration and 8th grade career day. Hard to believe we start this early, but this does allow us to get schedules to students before they leave for the summer and allow them to make changes sooner.

The college fair is Monday night in Carey Gym. It would be neat for the staff to wear a shirt/sweatshirt from the school you attended and blue jeans that day. If you have read this far, don't share this with others, let's see who takes the time to finish this.

Just a reminder that we need you to take attendance at the beginning of class. Recently, there have been a few that are not taking attendance. If a student is missing and something had happened to them and you don't mark them absent, you are opening yourself to a negligence suit.

I will be out of the office today, if you need something please see Mr. Utesch.

Have a great weekend!
Mark

Assistant Principal's Happenings

We are starting to see more and more of the vaping devices and e-cigarettes here at LCHS.  We have been able to take a few, but realize that there are more being used.  Most of this is happening right in front of us, so I encourage you to be aware of what is happening in your classrooms, in the hallways, and in the lunchroom.  Please be in hallways in between classes and if you are by a restroom, please drop in to check on things to make sure that kids are doing the right thing.

Students are continuing to push the limits and are looking for their boundaries, please be consistent with your expectations in the classroom and report those incidents that you might need assistance with.  Continue to make phone calls home (positive or negative) as this is the best way to impact a situation.

The student council is kicking off our Support Siouxland Soldiers campaign tonight at the football game vs. Heelan.  We will be collecting items to put in care packages for our soldiers.  We are also taking monetary donations to help fund the cost of putting together the packages and shipping them overseas.  If you know of a soldier who is currently deployed or will be deployed, please contact Nancy Isebrand with their information, so that we can be sure to send them something from home.  Last year we sent over 65 packages to deployed troops and would like to keep our efforts of support going.  In addition, LCHS Student Council is selling t-shirts this year to support our SSS project.  The t-shirts are red or navy with the slogan Remember Everyone Deployed.  Order forms are in all school offices or online at

www.GETBRANDED360.COMSHOP>SCHOOLS>LCHS REMEMBER EVERYONE DEPLOYED

Orders are due October 15th and a picture of the t-shirts are in the main office so that you can see what they will look like in color.

A reminder that Monday, October 8th is the start of our next duty rotation.  Please visit the google doc site to check and see if you are on duty and where.  :)

Librarian's News

October is National Bullying Prevention Month. Thank you, Mr. Bork, for having your class create and hang signs in the hall. We can see bullying and try to stop it in the halls, but how do we help stop it online? CyberWise has numerous free resources that can be used from various age levels. Take a look and see what you can use in your classroom:Cyberbullying Hub

Success Center Update

We have had several new students join us in the Success Center this week - some have requested to come in; others have been "encouraged."  If you have students who spend part of their day with us (if you send me a note, I will get you a list), please let me know what measures you have already taken in your classroom and, more importantly, which assignments, tests, and/or quizzes you will still allow them to complete for credit.  We will create a plan of study for each child to hopefully get (and keep) him or her on track.  Thank you!
