October 12, 2018

Happy Friday! Where has this week gone? We are quickly moving towards the end of the 1st quarter. The quarter ends on October 25. Report cards will be printed on October 29 at 8:30 am. Grades will need to be completed prior to that. Please make sure you make all comments under quarter 1. If a student is at-risk in your class, I expect you will include comments on those students.

We have had a rash of vaping and cigarette use in the classrooms and bathrooms this week. Our smoker is hitting the restroom during 2nd or 3rd period. Please keep track of who is leaving your classroom. If you have someone that has gone to the bathroom the same time the last two days during this period let Mr. Utesch know this.

Looking ahead, we have our district in-service next week. On Oct. 22, we will have our anti-bullying assembly. Our assembly will start at 2:30, so the office will announce when to dismiss out of 7th period. It will be sometime around 2:20. Our second building in-service this month will be on Oct. 24 at 7:00 am. Don't forget the November 28 building in-service will be from 4:00 to 5:00 pm as we are having an outside instructor come in to discuss ELL strategies with us. With the increase in ELL students, this has been a common message that I have heard we need. Our ELL students will most likely keep increasing, as different industries in the area keep looking for more employees. The unemployment rate of NW Iowa is under 2.4%, which means employable people in our area are getting harder to find.

If you are not doing anything tonight, the annual soup and pie supper is going on from 5:00 to 6:30, followed by the football game. The 6-12 band will be presenting their mass band show at halftime. After the game, we will honor the stadium as this will be the last home game as the stadium stands now. On Oct. 22, our stadium will close to the public and on Oct. 29, deconstruction will begin.

Have a great weekend!
