Happy Friday! Just a reminder, 1st quarter mid-term is today. Please make sure grades are updated over the weekend and progress reports will be sent home on Monday. This would be a good time to start arranging PASS plan meetings for students at risk. I would call and try to set up meetings during conferences on Oct. 2 and 5. Those will run from 5:00 to 8:30 pm. I believe I listed those times wrong in last week's Friday Focus.
The Junior class will be kicking off their annual fundraiser on Monday. They will be called out of class at 9:30 and will report to the competition gym. They will be back to class around 10:30. They are selling black or white "Yeti style" glass with a bulldog logo on them.
We do have our 2nd building meeting next week. You will continue to work on your curriculum as outlined in the district's pd plan.
Reminder to get me any potential new courses for next year. I will need to look at them before we put them in the course description booklet. We are looking at a similar timeline as before with registration for next year.
Have a great weekend!

The LCHS Student Council will be kicking off their annual fundraiser with the Support Siouxland Soldiers campaign. This fall more than 130 local soldiers will be traveling overseas to fight for our freedom. The student council will run their campaign starting at the October 13th football game. It will be "camo" night and we will begin collecting monetary donations as well as food donations for our packages that we send overseas to our soldiers. We will collect items from October 13th - November 3rd. Updates on the items we are looking to collect this year will come within the next week or two.
Things to keep in mind...
Proactive Classroom Management: The Beginning of the Year
1. Organize - remember that learning cannot exist in chaos.
2. Procedures - Know HOW you want your classroom to run - telling students your expectations may not be enough, you must sometimes practice them with your students.
3. Rules - Rules are not procedures! Establish short, general rules regarding behavior you expect in the room. Too many specific rules lead to students trying to find ways around them.
Librarian's News
Teen Read Week is October 8-14. It would be wonderful to see every teen engaged in reading and sharing their story. FlipGrid is a wonderful video tool that allows for "unlimited student response videos of 15-sec to 90-seconds." I am planning to have a station set up that week for students to recommend a book and then post a link to the video on the Library Google Site. I am in the process of updating to the new Google sites, but they currently do not offer a lot of the same features as the old, so I am unable to transfer so necessary information yet.Now that midterms are out, if a student has a D or an F, they must have a pass from the teacher of the class for which they need a computer. All students still have access to the library for books, and all students may use the computers before and after school. Students with a pass will need to present the pass to Mrs. Reed AND the library staff.
Please keep Codie Kellen (bus garage) and his wife, Emily (our flag coach) in prayers. (I am posting with his permission). Emily is having in-utero surgery Saturday to give their baby boy a better chance of a healthy life. Emily will then have to remain in MN until the baby is born (original due date in November).
Just a reminder that we are hosting an online book fair: Usborne Book Fair

Many of us have seen animated GIFs before. If you aren't familiar with the term a GIF is a brief video that is looped over and over. Have you ever considered using GIFs in your classroom? You could use a series of GIFs to break down a process into steps. A GIF could be used to call attention to something important. Another idea is to use a GIF to show a sequence in a timeline. This link shows how to make a GIF using your video clip and ezgif.com.
Are you aware that you can put borders and shade paragraphs in Google Docs? If this is something you might be interested in learning more about in only 4 minutes and 21 seconds, click here.
If you have ever had a picture where you wish the teeth were a little whiter or maybe the tan was a little darker or that darn zit wasn't there, then you have to take a moment to try these tools as explained at PicMonkey.
If you are looking for a short yet interesting read I have a website for you. The concept----Balloon. Powered. Internet. The more cool part to me is that is being built in Sioux Falls, SD.
