Friday Focus  Happy Friday!  Today is the last day of ISASP and the block schedule. I would appreciate any feedback you may have on the week as I am always trying to find ways to improve how we give the ISASP.  It is hard to believe this is the last Friday Focus for March. The time is moving much too fast and there is so much left to do this school year. I am kind of at a stand still with the master schedule as we have the FCS opening for next year. If you know any FCS teachers, please help recruit them to apply for our opening. I have sent emails to ISU, Wayne State, and SDSWho?.  Today is the last day for the teachers to vote on the Plymouth County Bar Assocation Scholarship nominations. I will look at the voting on Monday and talk to some of you that said you would be willing to write a letter of recommendation. I do need those letters by April 4.  We will have a quick assembly next Friday at the start of second period. There is an announcment we would...

Friday Focus  Happy Friday! I hope everyone had a great week. I will be gone again today, but this is Tanner's last swim meet of the school year. This is the meet he has been training for, so he is pretty pumped and ready to go.  This week I signed our first formal pre-apprenticeship agreement with the Carpenters Training Institute. This agreement recognizes the learning and work our students do in our construction classes and gives them credit for that experience if they join the Carpenters Training Institute in Sioux City. Those students, if they are 18, will get a job with a contractor and then will continue on with the apprenticeship. If they are not 18 yet, they can sign on with the union and still start the classes, but can't get a job until he/she turns 18. After their first year, they are awarded a $1500 scholarship to pay for tools they will need for their job. This is an excellent opportunity for those students interested in a career in construction fie...

Friday Focus  Happy Friday! I hope everyone had a great week.  On Monday, I attended a DCAP workshop. You may be asking what is a DCAP workshop? DCAP is our District Career Academic Plan. Just like the student ICAP, Individual Career Academic Plan, the district must have one also. In the DCAP, we spell out what we are doing to prepare our students for college career readiness and employability skills. The DCAP consists of 7 sections, the main sections deal with course planning, work-based learning, and 5 essential components of ICAP.  The course planning section deals with the students 4 year plan and how the students and parents are advised on progress towards graduation. This is why we have the grade level registration meetings, our 8th grade CTE day, 8th grade parent meeting, etc so we can meet this requirement.  I am sure by this point, you are asking yourself how does this apply to me? This gets us into the next few sections with what we do in class matte...

Friday Focus  Happy Friday! I hope everyone has had a great week and enjoyed the warmer weather. Hard to beleive how cold we were just a week ago. I will be out of the building again today. I made the drive back to Iowa City so Tanner could swim in the Iowa Senior Short Course Championships. This will be a fun 3 days of swimming.  I will be starting to schedule department meetings next week to go over course numbers for next year. Please also remember that requistions are due on March 17. If you are ordering any type of "office supplies", those will need to be sent to Amy so we can do one large order.  We are doing driver's education different this year. They will be starting class on Saturday and will meet every Saturday except for Apirl 5 and April 19. This gets all the classwork done prior to school being dismissed.  Just a reminder we will run the assembly schedule on March 7th. Advisory on March 3 will consist of class meetings.  Freshman - Library, ...

Friday Focus  Happy Friday! I hope everyone has had a great week. Looks like warmer temperatures ahead, so that is good news.  The counselors are making good progress with getting the student registered for next school year. At the time of this writing we only have 60 student left to register. Once we have that down to a handful of students I'll start scheduling department meetings to go over numbers.  I am happy to announce we have hired a new math teacher for next year, Jaclyn Enger will be joining us. She has previous teaching experience at Sioux City East. Recently she has been subbing in the MOC and Sioux Center districts when she is not staying home with her children.  Just a reminder about getting requisitions turned in for the  25-26 school year. Remember that you must follow the process outline in the attachment I emailed out on Feb. 6. If you purchase something with you own money without prior approval, the district will not ...

Friday Focus  Happy Valentines Day or as the legendary Mr. Martin referred to it as Happy S ingles Awareness Day. For those who didn't know Doug, you missed out on some great quotes.  I will be out of the building today as I head to Iowa City for the State Swim Meet to cheer on Tanner and teammates. I hope you enjoy the 3 day weekend.  The requisition process has started for the 25-26 school year. Remember that you must follow the process outline in the attachement I emailed out on Feb. 6. If you purchase something with you own money without prior approval, the district will not be able to reimburse you. The attachment shows a March 24 deadline, but I will need you to do these earlier as that is my deadline to approve them to send to Central Office. Please have your requisitions done no later than March 17. We are also deep into the registration process. The goal is to have all the students registered by the end of the month. Once that is done, I'll st...
