Friday Focus 

Happy Friday! I hope everyone had a great week. We have made it through prom, now the only major day to make it through is graduation. Since we don't have school next Friday, this will be the Friday Focus for the next 2 weeks.

This week the 2025 and 2026 football schedules were finally released. Homecoming next school year will be September 26 and for the 26-27 school year it will be October 2. The dance will be September 27 from 9-midnight. 

Next Thursday, the students will be dismissed at 1:30. We do have our 2nd to last inservice of the year. The CIA has a fun activity for you all to do to see all the great lessons you created from you learning this school year. 

As we are getting 4th quarter going, remember April 14 is the midterm and the last day to have had PASS Plans. Any student at risk of failing your class will need to have a meeting and the form will need to be turned into me so I can document the meeting. You all have access to the spreadsheet if you need to see if I have a form from a meeting you attended. Midterm grades will be due at 8:30 am on the 14th. Mrs. Davis will run those reports and we will pass them out during 8th period.

The seniors are getting closer to graduation. I have several that are failing classes that are needed for graduation. I encourage you to call home and talk to the parents to let them know what their student needs to get done to pass your class. I am also communicating with parents, but I can't tell them what needs to be done to pass. Seniors final day of class is May 9. They will take semester tests on May 12 and 13. On May 13 all tests need to be done by the end of 5th period. Senior grades are due at 8:00 am on May 14. This is a hard deadline as Mrs. Davis will need to run final awards for that night. All seniors will need to have 50 credits at this time or he/she will not be walking at graduation.

Assistant Principal's Happenings

Reminder -- Taking Attendance.  I had two students that I chatted with recently that were gone for an entire day, but had only been marked absent for a handful of periods.  Please make sure your attendance is recorded accurately each hour at the beginning of the hour.

Legally, we are responsible for their safety.  Inaccurate attendance could be a problem if an emergency would arise.

On Powerschool, I can see a little widget that reports attendance.  This number is never 100%, because opens, internships, EBCE, etc., don't have daily attendance.  But this number should be higher.  I haven't dug into it much to see if certain individuals are neglecting it at a higher then normal rate, but please make sure you are taking accurate attendance each period.  Thank you.


Last week some of our Special Ed staff and I were able to attend a symposium at Dordt.  My favorite take-away was to utilize the "5 why's" when looking for root causes of behavior.  They gave the example of an elementary student that likes to elope:

Why does child run ?  -- He likes to be chased.
Why does like to be chased?  -- It is more fun.
Why is it more fun ? -- It is currently work time.
Why is he not engaged in work time?  
Why is he motivated to escape the task? ..... and so on.

This doesn't always give us perfectly clear answers, but it may be a useful lens to view a situation through when we are problem-solving together.

  Friday Focus  Happy Friday! I hope everyone had a great week.  On Monday, I attended a DCAP workshop. You may be asking what is a DCAP workshop? DCAP is our District Career Academic Plan. Just like the student ICAP, Individual Career Academic Plan, the district must have one also. In the DCAP, we spell out what we are doing to prepare our students for college career readiness and employability skills. The DCAP consists of 7 sections, the main sections deal with course planning, work-based learning, and 5 essential components of ICAP.  The course planning section deals with the students 4 year plan and how the students and parents are advised on progress towards graduation. This is why we have the grade level registration meetings, our 8th grade CTE day, 8th grade parent meeting, etc so we can meet this requirement.  I am sure by this point, you are asking yourself how does this apply to me?   Friday Focus Happy Friday! I hope everyone had a great week. We made it through graduation breakfast, practice, and award night. I was thinking that Wednesday is just as about as busy of a day as the Friday of homecoming for me.  This will be the last Friday Focus for the school year, so I'll try to remember to have everything you need to know to get through the last week of classes. Please remember contracts are due to Central Office on the 23rd. I do have a basket on my desk where you can turn it into me and I'll get it to Central Office.   We will be running the advisory schedule on Monday. On Tuesday, we will use the last day of school schedule. On the last day of classes students will be checking out. Please sign their check out sheets. If they have school property that needs to be returned, please document it on the sheet. During advisory that day, they will turn in their laptops.   Friday Focus Happy Friday!   I hope everyone has had a great week. Today is midterm of the 1st quarter. Please make sure all grades are up to date. Amy will run midterms and we will hand them out during 8th period.   I have had my first PASS plan turned in, congrats to Ms. Hommes to be the first one to get one done. Unfortuately is is for a senior that needs his credits. Next week is homecoming, let the fun begin. Monday night at 7:30 pm is the coronation. Come out to the competition gym to see who will be crowned this year's King and Queen.  On Monday, we will have class meetings so students can sign up for the different competitions. Freshmen will be in the Little Theater, Sophomores in the Library, Juniors in the Commons, and Seniors in the Competition Gym. Teachers with the asterick by their name in the Teacher Handbook are the lead teachers and will need to take charge of these meetings.  Dress up days for Homecoming Week. YOU CAN PARTICIPATE!...
