Happy Friday! I hope everyone has had a great week. Now back to normal next week.

Today, when the bell rings to go to the gym, I do want you to walk your advisory there. This is not a giant free for all to get in there. Each grade will have an assigned area in the gym to sit. Student Council will relay this information.

Today's schedule

Period 1 - Normal
Period 2 - 9:19 to 9:45
Advisory - 9:50 - 10:00
Class Olympics/Pep Rally - 10:15-12:00

Our first night of conferences are next week. Conferences will run 4:30 to 8:00 pm. Amy and Deb have a shared spreadsheet with all appointments that have been made. If you are scheduling pass plans, please make sure you are marking those on this sheet or you could get double booked.

Some dates you will want to keep in mind: Parent/Teacher conferences are on Oct. 3 & 7. Shelter drill on Oct. 2 at 2:30 pm.

From the ELL team:

Hi teachers! Just a reminder that we have Talking Points to use with our ELL families whose first language may not be English. Please sign in at least once before next Friday, October 4th and send one positive message home.

Go to talkingpts.org and click sign in with Google. All teachers have been added to this program. If you cannot get signed in, please email Kristen. Here's the slideshow with screenshots and more specific directions.

Thanks for all you do for our ELL students!

Enjoy the weekend!

Assistant Principal's Happenings

Things I’m grateful for: * A wonderful coronation on Tuesday night. Thank you Mrs. Cunningham, Mr. Bahr, and StuCo! *Homecoming week. I know, I know. I used to hate it. But when I stepped out of school for those few years, I realized how special it is that the school is the focus of the entire town. When you attend the coronation and the parade, realize that not every town has these things. View it with the lens of seeing tangible evidence of community support. It is special. *A professional staff focused on helping kids. I attended the 9th grade problem-solving meeting, and I came away impressed with their attitude of helping kids. We have some 9th grade students that are immature and tough to love. These folks are doing us all a favor by helping mold them to high school expectations. It is a long and frustrating process, sometimes. Keep focusing on re-teaching behavior. Let me know when you need assistance. If you find yourself re-teaching constantly and you’ve tried teacher consequences to no avail, perhaps it is time for the student to make a visit to my office. Things I’m learning: *I had a good training session for 504s on Tuesday. A big learning curve to this admin gig is the sheer amount of policies and law that we need to keep straight. And then make sure we do it right to avoid legal issues. Thank you for allowing me to attend this. Things I’m thinking about: *Defining “professional due diligence”. I won’t bore you with it here. Stop by and chat sometime if you want to know more. Reminders: *Tardy policy -- here it is from p.15 in the Student Handbook. If you have a student past their 5th tardy, you must still start the process with one 30 minute detention. I.e., we can’t skip straight to the consequences of 7 tardies without following the process. 1-4 Offense – teacher warning 5th Offense – Staff assigned detention 6th Offense – Staff assigned detention with conference with student/phone call to parents– takes semester test in that class 7th Offense – Office assigned detention – 2 hours- These tardy detentions will be made up during 2-hr. early-out days.

Grateful,

Moss
