Assistant Principal's Happenings
Happy Friday! I'm making up for missing last week's FF......
Things I'm grateful for:
*I've seen a lot of staff use and talk about Boys' Town methods in the past week. I've had some fruitful discussions that were reflective for both the teacher and myself -- we continue to push each other to get better at implementation.
*Shout-out to Officer Vickery -- we really appreciate having you here. One of John's many talents is de-escalation. We had a situation with a student where I was about to lose my cool, rapidly. Dr. Iverson and John saved the day by de-escalating the situation and getting the student to talk. Officer Vickery also does many things behind the scenes to help us communicate with law enforcement and juvenile court, when necessary. Tell him "thank you" next time you see him.
*Jade Pratt is joining us after being on maternity leave. She is new, but not new:) Please welcome her as a new full-time staff member.
Things I'm learning:
*Administrators have to set personal and professional goals at the beginning of the year, just like teachers do. This year my professional goals are centered around learning more about CTE grants, Perkins, and the RPP process; along with 504 law. I will be attending 504 training next Tuesday.
Things I'm thinking about:
*In cabinet, our yearly book study is "What Happened to You?" -- a book on trauma and its' effect on the brain and child development. I'll keep you updated occasionally on things I'm learning.
*What else I'm reading: "Pilgrim at Tinker Creek" by Annie Dillard. It is worth checking out if you enjoy reading books that make you think and see your world differently:)
Reminders I would like to deliver:
*Remember to view and follow all IEP and 504 plans on PS. Follow them and make sure your aides know what to do, as well. This is important. Thank you.
*Here is the HoCo duty sheet. Please review to remember what you've signed up for.
I will be sending out emails to each group (parade, coronation, etc.) with further instructions in the near future.
The cool kid award goes to Riley Kluver for helping with the dance. If you want to be a cool kid like Kluver, we would welcome more help!
Next year, I'm thinking about a rotation based on your advisory grade so we can avoid the mess of signing up. If you have thoughts, let me know. Stay tuned.
Grateful,
Moss
