Happy Friday! I hope everyone has had a great week. Today is midterm of 1st quarter. Amy will run those reports in the morning and will get put them in your mailbox to handout to your 8th period class. Students with opens 8th period will need to get them in the office.

During advisory on Monday, we will have class meetings. These teachers are the chairpersons for each class: Freshmen - Hessenius & Vickery, Sophomores - Eckstaine and Krook-Brunette, Juniors - Mena and Tentinger, and Seniors - Carter and Ruba. During the class meeting, the task to complete will be signing up the teams for the competitions on Friday. Each student may only be in one competition so they need to plan accordingly. Seniors will meet in the little theater, Juniors in the commons, Sophomores in the competition gym, and Freshmen in the library.

Next week is homecoming. Please take the time to participate in the dress up days. Mr. Irwin has now given away all of his vintage clothing so if you missed out you may have to check with Mr. EcksCoronation will be at 7:30 pm in competition gym on Tuesday, 9/24. On Friday, when the bell rings, I do want you to walk your advisory to the competition gym. This is not a giant free for all to get in there. Each grade will have an assigned area in the gym to sit. Student Council will relay this information.

Friday's schedule

Period 1 - Normal
Period 2 - 9:19 to 9:45
Advisory - 9:50 - 10:00
Class Olympics/Pep Rally - 10:15-12:00
Lunch 12:00 - 13:00
Parade Lineup - 13:00 - 13:45
Parade - 13:45 - 15:00
Freshmen Football - 16:15
Varsity Football - 19:00
Dance - 21:00

Some dates you will want to keep in mind: September 24 - Coronation, September 25 - In-Service, and September 27 - Homecoming. Parent/Teacher conferences are on Oct. 3 & 7. This would be a good time to schedule meetings with the parents you need to see rather than wait and see if they schedule conferences.

I was looking at our student data in the EVAAS system. All of the teachers should have access to this. If you don't remember your login, please let me know and I can get it for you. In EVAAS you can look at the growth of the class and individuals. This picture gives an overview of the growth our students made during the ISASP from last year. You can also change this to cohorts. The only downside, is the program doesn't show the middle school ISASP results. You can also select multiple years to see if there are any trends.

This chart shows our student growth in math for the last 3 years.

I am starting to think about the registration process for next school year. If you have an idea for a new course, the new course proposal form can be found on the the high school pd website. Please get those in by the end of October.

Enjoy the weekend!

Assistant Principal's Happenings

Happy Friday!  I'm making up for missing last week's FF......

Things I'm grateful for:

*I've seen a lot of staff use and talk about Boys' Town methods in the past week.  I've had some fruitful discussions that were reflective for both the teacher and myself -- we continue to push each other to get better at implementation.

*Shout-out to Officer Vickery -- we really appreciate having you here.  One of John's many talents is de-escalation.  We had a situation with a student where I was about to lose my cool, rapidly.  Dr. Iverson and John saved the day by de-escalating the situation and getting the student to talk.  Officer Vickery also does many things behind the scenes to help us communicate with law enforcement and juvenile court, when necessary.  Tell him "thank you" next time you see him.

*Jade Pratt is joining us after being on maternity leave.  She is new, but not new:)  Please welcome her as a new full-time staff member.

Things I'm learning:

*Administrators have to set personal and professional goals at the beginning of the year, just like teachers do.  This year my professional goals are centered around learning more about CTE grants, Perkins, and the RPP process; along with 504 law.  I will be attending 504 training next Tuesday.

Things I'm thinking about:

*In cabinet, our yearly book study is "What Happened to You?" -- a book on trauma and its' effect on the brain and child development.  I'll keep you updated occasionally on things I'm learning.

*What else I'm reading:  "Pilgrim at Tinker Creek" by Annie Dillard.  It is worth checking out if you enjoy reading books that make you think and see your world differently:)

Reminders I would like to deliver:

*Remember to view and follow all IEP and 504 plans on PS.  Follow them and make sure your aides know what to do, as well.  This is important.  Thank you.

*Here is the HoCo duty sheet.  Please review to remember what you've signed up for.

I will be sending out emails to each group (parade, coronation, etc.) with further instructions in the near future.

The cool kid award goes to Riley Kluver for helping with the dance.  If you want to be a cool kid like Kluver, we would welcome more help!

Next year, I'm thinking about a rotation based on your advisory grade so we can avoid the mess of signing up.  If you have thoughts, let me know.  Stay tuned.

Grateful,

Moss
