March 15, 2024
Happy Friday! I hope everyone had a great week. Today is the end of the 3rd quarter. With that being said, grades will be due by 8:30 am on Monday. Please put comments for students who have D and F's in the Q3 category. Amy will run report cards after I store grades. The district academic eligiblity policy will be in effect. Students must pass 4 full time classes in order to be academically eligible for any school activity. Students that are not academically eligible will be ineligible for the entire 4th quarter. Mr. Moss will get you this list. Please make sure if you have an ineligible participant that they are not in a competition.
Requistions for next year are due to me today. Please make sure you follow the guidance from Kim on how to enter the requistion on web link. I will talk to you if I am not approving a purchase. If you are getting quotes, please make sure they are attached to the requistion.
Next week we give the ISASP. During advisory, remind sophomores that if they are proficient on all of their tests, they will be eligible for opens. All students wanting to take college classes must also be proficient on the ISASP. Let all students know how important it is that they do their best on these tests.
Tuesday and Thursday will be the odd periods and Wednesday and Friday will be the even periods. On Tuesday and Wednesday, students will take the Reading and Science subtests and on Thursday and Friday, students will take the Writing and Math subtests.
Students will need to report to all classes. If they have a parent call them out, the student will be ineligible to practice on that day. If you are a coach, you will want to remind your team of this rule. All students will have open lunch as we will run one lunch shift on those days.
The moral of this story -- taking attendance is a really small part of your day and easily overlooked, but can have massive consequences. I bring this up because I had two separate situations where the student was shown to be in class all morning, but was in fact absent. Both cases spanned multiple teachers, so not just one teacher was at fault. I’ve already spoken with all involved, but please be sure to take accurate attendance. It is one of those things that doesn’t matter much until it matters completely - and then it is too late.
Looking further ahead, prom is just a little over a month away on April 6, and PASS Plans are due on April 19 for all semester 2 and trimester 3 classes.
Have a great weekend,
Mark

Announcements / Thought of The Week: The Importance of Taking Accurate Attendance:
Let the “Life of Moss” (™) serve as a cautionary tale: In my first year in the district, I was teaching 7th grade science from a cart since I didn’t have my own room. One day, excited to start my lesson, I neglected to enter my attendance. It was an innocent oversight. Around 9am, Principal Webner came into the room and I could tell he was on a mission. “Do you have K_____ in class right now?” I said she was absent, but I hadn’t taken attendance yet. It turned out she had run away from home and fortunately was picked up by a sheriff’s deputy. But my roster showed she was in my class since I had not taken attendance. So when the parents initially called the secretaries, they told them that K_____ was here at school. She wasn't. Not good.
