Happy Friday! I hope everyone has had a great week. This will be the last Friday Focus in November.
We sure did start the week off exciting, fire alarms going off before school. Most of you were not here yet, so consider yourself lucky. If the fire alarms are going off and it is not a scheduled drill, we do need to move all students towards the exits. If it is cold (under 30 degrees), wait by the doors to be given an evacuation order. If it is above 30 degrees, then evacuate the building. Please do not reenter until told so by myself, Mr. Formanek, or any member of the Le Mars Fire Department. On Monday, Someone silenced the alarms and people started to come back into the building. If the strobes are still going off, the building has not been cleared. So it is easier to wait for an all clear to be given before reentering the building. During the winter months, if we need to evacuate, go out the closest exit and make your way to the bus barn. We will use the bus barn as a shelter until it is all clear to come back into the school.
Mr. Formanek, Mrs. Leavitt, and I attended the online meeting regarding our targeted status on Tuesday. I am including a link to our Iowa Performance Profile. This site contains our data that is used for our accountability. https://www.iaschoolperformance.gov/ECP/StateDistrictSchool/SchoolSummary?k=14170&y=2022
One section I want to discuss deals with our IEP students. If you click on Achievement Gaps, you will see all the groups we need to meet. Any group that had a score below 44.17 put us on the target list. As you can see, our EL students were not much above the 44.17. Our students with disabilities were 5.72 points below this number. If you keep scrolling on the page you will see the charts that show how they came up with the numbers. This is the IEP chart.
PERFORMANCE DETAIL: STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES (IEP)
As you can see, the combined weights of growth were at 48.94% since we did not have 20 IEP students graduate. If you still have your ISPP Weighting sheet I gave you on Wednesday, you can see that this is higher than the 31%. Average School Achievement is at a combined 15.78%, where this number is 10% if we had 20 IEP graduates. Finally, the percent proficient is at 12.64%, but if we had 20 graduates it would have been 8%. So almost half our score comes from growth.
I have put together the required committee that will help lead us in our journey. Thank you to Ashley Ludwig, Kasie Schindel, Tami Fisher, Liz Anderson, Cliff Collins, and Kelly Collins to agreeing to serve in this capacity. We will also have 2 staff members assigned from NWAEA to work with us, Dave Curry and Michelle Helt will serve in that capacity. We will have our first meeting to attend on December 7, where we will look more closely at the data. On January 10-11, we will attend a training on writing our plan in the required state program called SAMI. Once we are done with that session, we should have most of our work done for Year 1. Year 2 and 3 will be implementing the plan that will be created this year.
As we go through this process, everything will be on the table. This is a great chance for us to look at what we are doing in our basic and co-taught classes. We will be examining how we serve the students on IEP's for resource room and is there a better way for us to help fill in the gaps. I do believe we will become a better school for going through this process.
Anyway that is enough talk about the target status. If you have read this far down, you are almost to our break. Next week, we have just 2 days of school. Tuesday feel free to wear blue jeans along with some type of Bulldog apparel. When we get back from break, we will have only 14 days of class plus 3 testing days. I will be out of the building on December 2 as part of my YMCA Board position. We will be conducting the final interviews for the CEO position that day.
Have a great Thanksgiving!

Assistant Principal's Happenings
Happy Thanksgiving Break! I will keep my post short since Dr. Iverson had a lot to write with the Targeted Status Update. I hope you take time to enjoy your family and have a relaxing 5-day break. When we come back only 3 weeks until Finals. I know some students are starting to feel the pressure so please continue reminding them of the importance of finishing strong.
We had several incidents last week with students involved in fights/assaults. Before last week, we only had one minor incident with physical fighting this year. My goal is to make sure they do not happen whenever it is possible to avoid them. The best way to avoid allowing these things from happening is to be in the hallways. When students see you in the halls, they are less likely to make poor choices.
I have been working with Seniors in particular when it comes to grades. Several of them are in rough shape academically. Even with pass plans, please keep making contact to home, especially if they are not following the plan.
Enjoy Thanksgiving Break!
