Happy Friday, I hope everyone had a great week. Thank you for your work in the first lesson study. There was some confusion on what was to take place. On Wednesday, we will meet in the library at 2:00 and CIA will give some examples of what the presentation part should look like and questions that can be discussed. They will also go over the reflection part as well. After the CIA presentation, you will go back to your departments to work on your curriculum. Some of you will want to look at and update pacing guides, others will want to work on updating essential learnings, while others will be working on your units. As you do this work, we will use the PLC framework as a guide.
A big thank you to those that helped fill in this week. I have been trying not to use any of you during your planning period to fill in when we are short subs. So far, I have been lucky to move some study halls around or Judd, Melissa, Cliff, Kyle, or myself have covered. So just know if we ask you to cover during a prep, it is because we have exhausted all other possibilities.
We are still working out the kinks in the new sub software. The way the system works is once you enter your leave request, the request will go out to the sub list. If you want someone specific, you will need to email or text that person to see if he/she will take it. If he/she will take it, then you can enter your leave. Here is the thing you have to do though in order for that person to get it, you will need to mark you don't need a sub. Then you can email Deb and she can enter in the person that said he/she would take it.
Looking ahead, we have a shelter drill on Friday at 11:00 am. I will also be gone that day.

Assistant Principal's Happenings
Happy Snowday! I hope everyone is taking time to take care of themselves. This time of the year is busy, but it is vital that you spend time with the people you care about to help give you normalcy in your lives. I have heard more stress from teachers this week and I wish I had simple solutions for you all. Your jobs are difficult and you are all doing a great job even though it may not always feel like it. Please keep your head up and remember that you are impacting lives everyday.
We have had some rising numbers of students being absent due to illness and Covid. The week started off with a steady 6% out due to illness and were up to just under 10% yesterday. Please make sure you are reminding students that assignments are on Schoology so they should be able to keep up with any work they miss. I encourage you to have students come into classes before and after school when they miss too so they do not fall behind so early in the semester. Based on numbers, we expect this trend to continue for a while.
We have had a lot of truants this week due to some different things happening. The biggest issue is parents not calling in and some students missing classes for different activities. We still are having about 10 students a day that are being marked truant when they are in class. Please remember, if a student brings in a pass, you need to update the attendance to tardy. If a student is marked truant they will have to take all of their finals. I do not want students to have to take them all if they are not supposed to so please fix that when they come into class.
