Happy Friday! We made it through another week. Remember with the new quarantine rules, students don't need to quarantine if everyone is wearing a masks. Students must wear a mask at all times while in any school building. The only masks breaks that can be taken is if you go outside and have approval from Kyle and I. I shouldn't see students tweet pictures from classrooms with them not wearing their masks. I understand that you want to give them a chance to take their masks off for a little bit, but with our policy this is not allowed.
In the last couple of days, we have seen a slight increase in the students either testing positive or having symptoms. It is important that we keep up on getting our lessons on Schoology for these students. We can't develop the mindset that we are operating like we have in the past. We are still navigating through this COVID journey. Keep in mind that not every student is going to be able to do everything we ask them to do online. Some are going to have internet issues, while others may not have much support at home, we just need to be careful we don't widen a learning gap unintentionally.
Looking ahead, we have a district in-service day on Oct. 14. During that time, CIA is asking you look over the slideshow that Mrs. Permeswaran shared with you and then work on getting your lessons on Schoology. During our extra hour meeting on the 21st, you will meet in grade levels. Please refer to Mr. Bahr's email for what rooms each grade level will meet in. For those that have multiple grades, please attend the grade level for where you have the greatest concern. Please take the time to enter info into the spreadsheet for your at risk students. This will allow these meetings to focus on strategies rather than behaviors.
October 21st is also the end of the 1st quarter. Please make sure grades are current Friday morning. Report cards will be printed after 8:30 am. They will be distributed during advisory at the end of the day.
If you have at risk students and you did not see his/her parents last night, please take the time to invite them to conferences Tuesday night. We need to get the parents working with us to help their child improve. I always learn more about the kid when you meet the parents. Sometimes we can be the only champion of that kid.
Have a Great Weekend!

A couple things for Advisories- I will start handling tardies instead of you having to worry about them. 95% of these still make it to 1st hour on time which is way more important than the advisory time. Please don't worry about contacting parents or giving consequences yourself for advisory tardies. I always talk to the truants for it and give consequences when they miss it consistently. The other thing for advisory, once the weather starts to turn for the Winter, we won't require the T and I students, to come to the morning Advisory as we don't need them potentially driving in poor conditions back up there. We will send out more details once we make that change.
The first quarter is over in less than two weeks! Please make sure you are updating grades so students know their standing in your classes. I've had more than a few kids (Seniors that lost Opens in particular) state they have had assignments in for over a week without it being graded. While we are not expecting it to be graded instantly please have it done in a reasonable amount of time so students know their standing in class. Students must be passing at least 4 classes to be eligible to compete/perform in extra-curriculars.
Adding a little more to Dr. Iverson's section on masks, you wouldn't want to be the teacher responsible for kids being quarantined because you chose to ignore the mask policy. This would be especially true now that we are able to keep kids in school as long as they have the masks on in the building. If you have kids that consistently are causing issues with masks please send them down to us if it warrants a mask violation.
