Happy Friday and Happy Homecoming! I know this year's homecoming is far from what we have had in the past. Hopefully this spring we can make up some of these events we missed this week. I believe the students would appreciate it.
We did receive some great news on Monday. We will still need to contact trace, but I won't be sending kids home if everyone is wearing masks. The reason we will contact trace is to make sure what we are doing in school is effective in keeping COVID from spreading. We will still want to try an social distance when we can and where we can. This doesn't mean we will jump right back to how things were last year. Please still make sure you are using your seating charts. Contact tracing will look different now. The first thing I will ask you will be was everyone wearing their mask? Then I will look at the seating chart to determine who was within the 6' for 15 minutes. Those parents will be notified that their student was exposed so that they can monitor their student for symptoms.
I am including the results of the vote for changing our grading weighting. In the first poll, I had you vote if we needed to change or not. In this poll, the people voting for a change slightly outnumbered the ones that wanted to keep it the same.

In my second poll, the 80-20 split had the most support. So effective today, I will change the split to 80-20 for this year.

Looking ahead, next week we have a shelter drill on Oct. 6 @ 1:05 pm, extra hour meeting on Oct. 7, school pictures on Oct. 8, and our first night of Parent Teacher Conferences on Oct. 8. School pictures will be in the multipurpose room. Have students go down the hallway by the art and band rooms to access the room. We will use the south door as an entrance and the north door as the exit. Extra hour meetings this month will happen on October 7 and 21.
Have a Great Weekend!

Happy Homecoming! We had a great rehearsal for the court last night and I think those kids felt some of the normalcy they have been missing out on this year. Student Council will continue to work to develop more activities throughout the year, stay tuned to Bulldog Bites once we have plans ironed out!
We have had some more behaviors occurring as the year continues. Please make sure you are having positive expectations for kids. This is something I am working on as well and am refocusing on helping kids grow as students instead of only punishing them. There are still consequences but that is secondary to helping them mature. Many of these behaviors are directly related to adjusting to our new normal.
Please continue to reach out to parents on setting up Pass Plans and Parent-Teacher Conferences. Half of the Seniors are off the F list as they get work turned in from Quarantine. Please reach out to parents so they can know what students need to do to catch back up in classes.
Have a great Homecoming day and weekend!

I'm not sure if anyone else got this email from the AEA: Defined Learning is now a resource for teachers offered by NWAEA. A specific home page has been created for you that has resources for you to continue to build your understanding or help you get started if you have not used it before. Students now have the option to search for performance tasks/careers as well to give students more voice and choice. The direct link is https://www.definedlearning.com/start/northwest-aea/ Questions need to be addressed Joyce VanderWilt (jvanderwilt@nwaea.org or Jordan Menning (jmenning@nwaea.org).
Thank you for all the support and participation during this crazy homecoming week. Student council members are encouraged to coming in during study halls or any free time in class this afternoon to blow up balloons for the coronation. The seniors did send some pictures of Sami Clark and a short remembrance video will be shown during the game at some point.
