March 6, 2020

Happy Friday! I hope everyone had a great week. We do have our in-service meeting on Wednesday. The CIA group has quite the plan in place for you after I cover the ISASP and our Iowa School Performance Profile. Please make sure you bring your data and what you did for interventions or enrichments.

As we begin our spring activity seasons, schedules will need to be flexible as there are so many activities dependent on the weather. Hopefully this weekend will see lanes painted on our track to get ready for our first home meet on March 31.

We ended a rather successful winter season for multiple activities. Both the boy and girl basketball teams made it to the substate final and came within a game of qualifying for state. The boy and girl bowling teams made a return visit to the state meet. We qualified 5 wrestlers to the state meet with 2 wrestlers placing. Robotics made a trip to the state competition. Jazz Band qualified for Iowa Jazz Championships later in April. Large group speech had numerous acts be selected to the all-state festival. Five members of the dance team are dancing for the All-Iowa Dance squad this weekend. Show Choir is just getting started in their competition season and IE Speech will have their state competition on March 14.

We will be rescheduling the evac drill from Thursday to next week sometime. Once we get a time figured out I'll let you know.

Don't forget to get requisitions into me. Please make sure you put FY 20-21 in the requisition description. If you don't, I'll reject it so you will need to resubmit. These are due on March 13.

The end of the quarter is on 3/17; grades will be due on 3/20 so report cards can go out.

Have a great weekend!

Assistant Principal's Happenings

I will be out of the office on Friday and won't be able to answer my phone for most of the day.  Please let Dr. Iverson know if you are having any issues with students.  On Monday, the student council kids will be going outside and cleaning up trash that has collected over the winter.  We will be doing that during advisory time.  If you see them don't worry that they are out there.

I still am getting a lot of reports of verbal harassment happening in the school.  Please make sure you are stationing yourself in the hallways when you can so we can have witnesses if things are happening.  That is the piece that is often missing and it becomes a case of someone accusing the other without evidence and the other person denies it occurred.  I still discuss it with the kids and let parents know but it limits me on what I can do for consequences without solid evidence.  I have emailed several groups of teachers who to watch out for because they are in their classes.  If you have any questions about these kids please let me know.

Success Center Updates

March is National Reading Month (in honor of Dr. Seuss's birthday.) Let's build a culture of learning by encouraging students to put down their phones and pick up a book!  Their reading skills will grow the more they read, and think of all the amazing places books can take them.  Happy reading!
