January 10, 2020

Happy Friday! It is also our last Friday of first semester. Grades will need to be finalized Tuesday before you go home. This will give Mr. Formanek a chance to enter in the no credits and then run eligibility lists. For those students who failed a class, I will need the PASS plan end of semester form filled out. That can be found on the high school professional development site.

During semester test today and Monday, please keep the students in the classroom the entire time. If they need to go to the bathroom, that is fine, but limit how many leave your room to one at a time. Again, please be flexible with our winter sport activities as basketball played late last night and wrestling will be leaving early today.

Looking ahead, during advisory on 1/20, please have the students complete the end of semester reflection and the semester 2 goal setting. On 1/27, Mrs. Isebrand will need to have a Junior class meeting to discuss everyone's favorite topic, Prom. Mrs. Isebrand will send out the location of the meeting, Junior class sponsors should attend this as well.

Our district inservice is on January 15, and our next extra hour meeting is on January 22. Our next shelter drill is on January 22 also. I will be out of the building on January 30 as I attend a college and career readiness workshop/visit in Sioux Falls.

Have a great weekend!

Assistant Principal's Happenings

I just have a few notes for Finals.  I have about 20 students who are still working on finishing their attendance contracts.  Many requested to go to study halls/classrooms they might otherwise not need to go over the next three days to finish that time.  Please talk to those students and email me the time they have made up as many of you have already been doing.  If you have students that can still make up work encourage them to come on Tuesday and finish up what they may need to do.  Also, please call home to show parents you are giving every opportunity for their children to succeed.

I will send out notifications to coaches and updating the ineligible list as soon as I can.  Be aware an F at semester begins a 30-day ineligibility in their current season or their next season if they are not out for winter activities.  I will also be putting in NC's for students who fail to complete their hours before the end of the semester.

Next Wednesday, if time allows in your morning classes, please remind students of our expectations for second-semester finals.  Those can be found in the Handbook- focus on maintaining good grades and no truants.

Notes from the Librarian

As the semester ends, it also means the beginning of requisition time! If you know of titles that you would like to have in the library, please send me the title and author. This is for fiction and non-fiction wishes. It also includes wishes for ebooks and/or audio books that we can load into Mackinvia for classroom and/or individual checkout. While the majority of students still prefer to read a copy in hand, digital copies can be useful in many ways.

Please ask students to also let me know if we are lacking books in a series, genre, or interest of theirs. I try to keep up with what they enjoy, but I know I always miss a few.

With the new semester, I will be teaching a new group of students video media. However, I have 4 returning from 1st semester, and the goal is to produce some type of announcement/brief news show at least every 2 weeks (we may need longer the first month). If you have an upcoming event that you would like put in video form to advertise on Twitter, Youtube, or just the local channel, please let me know. We will see what we can do.

Success Center Updates

Technology Tidbits by Mr. Wingert

It seems that we are constantly being attacked via different phishing scams. This article is alarming in the fact that you are being tricked into giving the hackers permission to have access to your information...even after you change your passwords.

Google has now given you the ability to break out a single "slice of pie" in a pie chart. This definitely can add a dramatic effect to your data image.

When creating a copy of an existing Google Slides presentation, you'll now be able to select specific slides to copy instead of the whole deck and you can remove the speaker notes from the copy.
